I wonder the reason behind this. Makes no sense to me as a coach can easily change their mind after a year or in Bill's case get one next year as his sabbatical is not by choice. 3 is the shortest I would have it.

Yeah but Madden was seen as a likeable avuncular guy. BB is not. His recent media gigs notwithstanding.

The Hall hates the Patriots but even they know how ridiculous they would look not putting BB on first ballot.

I don't like the change. I think they should have kept the five year rule. It's clear after that whether they're done or not. It also makes it look like they changed it just for him.

That said, I don't think there's any chance he's not a first-round hall of famer, Borges or not.
