Are you supporting Wes or against him?

Harsh? Maybe. But this is the NFL, not junior high football. Welker openly admitted he choked. That play was terrible. If it hits you in the hands you netter catch it. Brady can't throw perfect passes all day especially when he's going up against one of he best defensive lines. Welker choked, he's overrated.

Right on, and don't forget that pos pretty boy Brady , who had an incompletion or that loser Wilfork who missed a tackle. Bunch of choker losers, they should trade them for picks , those guys aren't losers like the Patriots are. Thank god we have MENSA members like you who can see through all the wins to just how much they suck. You rock.

Wow the Welker threads have exploded with activity today.

I would hope that they start negotiating again after the draft. Brady wasn't very happy when they let his former security blanket go (Branch) and the Pats had to try to get a ring with Caldwell/Gaffney. Why would you do this to your franchise QB twice.

I know the Pats like to let players go before they lose their skills, but I saw nothing last year to suggest Welker is on the decline. Odds are the Pats won't win a ring anytiem soon when Brady retires, so why not maximize the talent around him.

the thing is

some people are fans of a team

and some people think sports is pokemon, where they can catch em all

there's teams who try and buy titles and fail, like the eagles, then there's teams who smartly spread the cap around

team fans always are better than player fans

Team Daniel Bryan here

LOL......singling out one play is stupid, but if you want to go about it that way, you don't need to go past the very first offensive play from scrimmage for the pats.......if brady doesn't make such a stupid throw, and there is no safety, then the pats are drving for an FG instead of a TD at the end.....so I'm going to be like you and choose that play as the deciding factor.....

welker has made plenty of plays which had they not happened, would have likely caused hte pats to not get to the SB for some other reason.

I want welker here.....period

Wes was wildly underpaid on his last contract. I can't see why any rational fan wouldn't be supporting Welker when it comes to this contract.

supporting Welker

why any rational fan wouldn't

Wrong forum, buddy.

It's fine and dandy for the team, as a business, to do whatever it wants to maximize earnings, including dumping players in the middle of a contract, but as soon as a player focuses on maximizing his earnings out come the righteously indignant fans mewling 'How dare you.'

If anything what just happened with Sapp should be a strong indicator that people just like you and me can squander millions through mismanagement.

this........if welker is not set for life with what he's already made, its his fault.....I know I would be

Rational and fan are practically oxymorons...

Along that line, Felger - who is actually pretty intelligent and can be insightful when he isn't focused on being a ratings douche - has often contended that there is a certain level of competitiveness/arrogance involved in the way this team views the business end of the football equation too. They don't just want to win games and championships, they are determined to win negotiations, even the seemingly straight forward or easy ones, with the guys they have identified as team players, yet they still have to create or even fabricate somewhat contentious scenarios they can eventually spin as a team win.

They've done it with Brady in the past, although this last time out the best they could muster was him finally hitting the bar as opposed to resetting it... Back in 2005 when they wanted to extend him on the heels of his third ring, Kraft had to publicly make the point that if he wanted Manning Money there would be a problem. He didn't, so with the parameters set on a 6 year $60M team friendly extension, they found a way to piss him off by suddenly insisting he take his signing bonus in 4-5 installments...to the point his side used Tom E. Curran to deliver the message that they were really beginning to annoy him.

That went over big here at the time with quite a few poster insisting Brady the diva should sign whatever deal the team was offering and be glad he gets to play here or they could flip him for a boatload of picks because Bill and his D can win with chewing gum and string on offense. Those were the knuckleheads I first came here to debate...

A few days later the message was sent that it was all a misunderstanding (on the teams part) and within a few more days the deal was done as actually previously agreed to, on Tom's terms...which were already beyond reasonable. It's like they **** around the most with the guys they think will let them get away with it. Only one they ever really badly miscalculated with was Branch, they never thought he'd actually leave... I think they felt the same way about Wilfork and Mankins and even moreso now about Welker. Which really doesn't leave Wes with a ton of leverage beyond letting fans know how they are behaving. At least he's handling it a lot better than Mankins did, and even better than Wilfork did.

Considering Mankins, Wilfork, and Brady are still on the team, I'd say it's rather perseptive of them.

Mo

These are big boy negotiations. If something happens time after time after time, why are you shocked it's happening now?

Besides, the three you mentioned were all entering the prime of their careers. That different that a 31 year old slot receiver and TE's on the horizon.

Talk about a loaded question!

I am for the New England Patriots and against anything that affects their ability to field a competitive roster top to bottom.

Unfortunately that means supporting tough business decisions sometimes.

That being said, I love Wes and hope this works out.

Because it's not about the past, it's about the future, and the future of a small, over age 30 WR with a serious injury in his past is simply not in the $10-12M x 5 years that he seems to want - but more in the 3 years x $6.5M with limited guaranteed money.

As long as there is a cap I want BB and not some bleeding heart making the choices. With two exceptions every single guy that BB has dealt or let walk has worked out according to his plans. I'll put my faith in BB thank you.

I'm for the Patriots before any one player.
