Anyone think that Gaffney could be traded????

Can you stop with the excuses. Jackson is at least a year away from doing anything worth while in this system.

And you know this HOW? The answer is you don't. For all you know Jackson will come in later this year and make contributions. Having Jackson's speed and size out there would certainly add to the offense. I'd rather have him on the field than Gaffney. Having Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Watson and Jackson out there would create so many mismatches it's ridiculous. That's too much speed for a defense to handle.

Jackson's idiot agent said:
"The strongest football team in the NFL gets stronger in three weeks," Canter said. "He's very excited about being able to get out there with the guys. He's healthy."

Who knows about the client, but this guy certainly doesn't get it. Puppies should be seen and not heard, particularly when they've been injury plagued practically since draft day...He may be the single greatest impediment to his clients chances at an NFL career as a Patriot.

Jackson did nothing when he was healthy. What makes you think he is going to step on to the field mid season and all the sudden tear it up?

He did have 3 TDs last year which isn't exactly nothing. And where did I say he was going to "tear it up"? The 4th WR obviously isn't going to put up amazing stats but that doesn't mean he can't contribute. I don't see Gaffney out there tearing it up.

Jackson is the second most talented receiver on the team as far as god given physical skill set.
I don't think having him paired with Randy Moss is the worst idea in the entire world.
I'm a Gaffney fan I am that being said I wouldn't shed a tear if we cut him tomorrow.
We have Randy Moss Donte Stalworth and Wes Welker as our number 1, 2 and 3 receivers respectfully nothing we all don't know.
However we need to see if Jackson has any glimpse of being able to replace Stalworths impact on this team cause if we wanna resign Moss I don't care how motivated and happy he is it's gonna take some serious cap room.
Jackson dominated on the 40 yd dash the 3 cone drill and more importantly the catching drills, he played for a complicated spread offense in Florida under urban meyer a coach BB thought enough about to grab a few of his players and learn more of his offense as a new wrinkle in the Patriots arsenal.
We made a significant trade to move up and get him and if he is healthy there should be no reason he isn't activated in the next 2 weeks.
Brady needs to get on page with this guy now or we may have a hole to fill in our 1 2 3 punch at receiver next year.
I for one don't want to see him have to get in sync with new receivers again and would like the bonding process to start now.
Imagine Moss and Jackson running full speed in a bunch formation towards the end zone!
I know this guy isn't a bust he had a little growing up to do as a large percentage of rookies has to and a great supporting cast and the best coach and QB to play the game.
If he can't succeed here he can't succeed anywhere!
I for one am expecting this kid to dominate when he is on the field cause putting your 4th or 5th best corner on him is like covering Moss with a Defensive lineman!
GO PATS!

bumped cause I wanna hear your thoughts on chad jackson's untapped potnetial

What could we get for Gaffney? If it's a mid to low round pick why bother? we were giving away picks this year.

I know having 10-12 picks makes draft season cool, but all we do is stock other teams.

On the other hand, if any of our top three receivers gets knicked we bring an outstanding playoff performer off the bench.

It will be interesting to see if Jackson's representation pushes for activation. If they do it may not sit well with the FO.

Why wouldn't it sit well with the FO? If he's healthy, he has a right to want to play. He'd be forcing them into a decision to either put him on the roster or cut him, but why should a player be forced to passively accept being placed on Injured Reserve simply b/c the team has enough depth at that spot?

The next couple of weeks should provide opportunities for Gaffney. We will see more teams doubling up on Moss of rolling coverage in his direction. Gaffney is a better route runner than Stallworth (and has better hands) but is no where near the threat. Stallworth looks like little more than a SEC receiver but he can take it to the house when he catches it.

Gaffney has no trade value, we would be lucky to get a 6th rounder for him. I guess it is better than nothing if he has to be let go for Brown or Jackson.

I was wondering why Gaffney got the call over Stallworth in the 3rd quarter and if it was an indication that Stallworth was doing something wrong or just a matter of simply rotating players to keep them fresh. I'll have to go back and re-watch when the switch was made and what the results were b/c I can't remember off the top of my head.

That's because the draft class this year was putrid. I doubt we get a mid-round pick for Gaffney, but if we did, that would be a huge return on a JAG-ish WR.

Gaffney played 10 snaps yesterday compared to Stallworth's 49...

First of all, danny, please stop making false arguments. Who here said CJ would "all the sudden {sic} TEAR IT UP?" No ONE. So give your disingenuousness a rest for once. Secondly, to say he "did nothing" in 2006 is as ridiculous as suggesting that he was awesome. Have a little balance in your posts and you'll get taken seriously someday.

It's also because few rookies could make this team.

You have to admit that's true. Even our 5th, 6th and 7th rounders (I believe) were picked up by other teams.

Right, I guess my question is why did Gaffney replace Stallworth for that one drive. Is it simply a matter of keeping guys fresh? Or do they really want to get Gaffney reps.

If Caldwell wasn't worth anything in September I doubt Washington would be worth anything this week. BB has been very complimentary about his WR corps based on what they show in practice. I don't think he parts with anyone although Washington might have to go if CJ has to be added. He has to get through 3 weeks of practice first, though.

Miguel's page is right, but you aren't reading it correctly. Between weeks 6 and 9 a player may be cleared to practice. Once he is cleared for practice, he may be activated at any time during the subsequent three week period. After that he goes to IR.

If BB wants to defer his decision on a player, he CAN wait until week 12.

Caldwell wasn't worth anything because his salary was too high.

Gaffney is worth something because of his low salary, but its hard to imagine us getting more than a fifth for him.

In my opinion he is worth more than a fifth to us RIGHT NOW (so this would be a bad deal unless cutting him is the alternative). If we can keep CJ on PUP (and I'm still not clear on what the basis for his grievance would be) we should do it. I'd love to see us add Troy Brown in week 12. I'm sure he'd find some way to contribute.

If Gabriel was traded for a 5th round pick (He was our leading reciever when we cut him), I see no reason we couldn't get at least a conditional pick from
a WR deficient team. Maybe as terms of the trade he might be extended 1 further year. Same for Washington I imagine.

I view Washington as the guy that Jackson would bump off the team. Both are primarily special teams guys who are flyers at WR.

Gafney is a guy who should be kept around just in case of WR injuries. Would anyone really want Washington out there starting instead of Gafney?
