Since this seems to be reminiscing-week, I was wondering if anyone would like to share a story of an accidental meeting with a Pats player? Just curious what the guys, past and present, are like in real life.

I wish I could share one, but I haven’t been that lucky yet!

I have a not-so-accidental meeting with a former Pats player. Drew Bledsoe. Sometimes, I draw portraits of sports figures and try to go get them signed by the player in question. In Drew's case, it was at training camp his second year. They took me around to meet him via golf cart and he was quite nice. He asked me if I would draw a pic for his mom, and I said yes, on one condition....that when he got the package he would send some type of note or acknowledgment that he had received it (others had done so in the past, ie. Boomer Esiason and Grant Hill, so I didn't think I was asking anything too strenuous). I also remember he drove this tiny little red sports car that looked like he wouldn't even be able to fit in it.

Anyway, I did the pic for his mom and he never acknowledged receiving it. Thanks, Drew. I suppose it's in her garage now, being that it had a Pats helmet on it and everything.

That's what I'm talking about!

This one time, at football camp....

That's NOT what I'm talking about!

Though it is funny...

Stanley Morgan

2 or 3 years ago they were having some celebration with former players, can't remember the event and I was in the pro shop and Stanley Morgan was in there buying Patriot goods. He was small and lean. He was really good, imagine him on today's passing team.

Actually. back in '94 or so, my best friend (who obviously was not a big football fan at the time) was fishing on Lake Nippinickit in Bridgewater, and he hit a rock and busted the prop. So he starts to row it in, and two guys come up on jet skis and offer to tow the boat in. So they get close to shore, my buddy goes to back up the trailer. So one stranger is guiding the boat in, while my buddy and the other guy are getting the trailer ready. He turns to my friend and says "Do you know who that is?"

"No. Should I?"

(laughing)"That's Drew Bledsoe?"

"Did you say Drew?"

"Yeah!"

(to the guy in the water) "Hey Drew....better swing it to the right a little bit to get away from the wall."

No only did my friend not recognize Drew Bledsoe, the name meant nothing to him.

The other guy was an uncle.

My only claim to fame: Andre Tippett was my sparring partner in the mid 80's. New England Mike has a plethora of stories from the early years. NEM???

Zuma, you must be a tough b@stard!

I think (but not 100% sure) I saw Mrs. Bruschi and their boys checking out a laptop at the Attleboro CompUSA about a month ago. Does that count?

Oh yeah and when I lived in Las Vegas I regularly played poker with Tommy Tupa's father-inlaw. That's about it.

I was very happy it was semi non-contact.

When I was bartending at Gulliver's in Smithfield, RI, I made the mistake of challenging Tony Franklin to a game of pool. He kicked my arse (I was back behind the bar in 5 minutes!)
