I just read a few posts above, including my own useless addition...

How many days is it now to the Draft?

Who cares?! Someone got a call from the Pats! :singing::bricks:

A "long con" is an extended setup in an attempt to rob or cheat someone else. it usually involved an elaborate story that is executed over many weeks to months, aimed at convincing the target that the con artist (or thief) is legitimately a friend and trustworthy resource. at the end of the long con, the con artist gets the victim to voluntarily put themselves in precisely the position the con artist wants them in.
Long Con Definition. Define long con's Meaning in the Real Dictionary

They're playing you -- they probably have a real coupon code, you use it, then you think that email address is really the patriots. Next email or two is for more discount codes.
Then they send you a link to a website to renew confirm your information and bam, you're done

I got a call, but I had to apologise and explain that I can't rush the passer...

But they already had his email address. And "Professional sports teams" wouldn't hire agencies that approached the OP in as ham-handed a manner as he was approached. Scam.

They might already have an email address on file, but they just want to confirm that they have entered it in correctly in their database and that is an active email address (e.g. a person originally gave the Patriots their work email address, but now they have changed jobs, and that email address is no longer active/the best one to get a hold of them).
I don't know about this specific case; it could very well be some sort of telemarketing scam. But it is a trend in sports business (I work in the industry, btw) to hire a group of interns have them make x amount of phone calls like this per day. It's all about making sure you have the most up-to-date phone numbers and email addresses on file so that they can communicate to you as efficiently as possible. Once again, I can't speak to the legitimacy of this specific case, but I can speak for what is a common practice in the professional sports industry.

I've asked the Patriots NOT to call my home directly, BB reluctantly complied, but Bob Kraft still constantly calls and ties up my line. God, that guy can talk.
