i am more excited. about draft day

I can see that help us in three years. Like it was so eloquently put, it depends on whether they are content to be competitive or win a Championship. Look at 07 as your guide.
Three years from now TB might have had enough. The law of averages says that two of those first four picks up to #53 will contribute now....maybe. The other two down the road if at all patsfan. We have way too many holes to sit back and watch the world go by. In the past we were loaded with talent and could wait. As of today we are not ...in fact rated 14th.

I can't wait for Step One to be over - the starting of free agency.

We will know who we have tendered. We will know who we have re-signed. And we will know which players of ours and other teams are now free agents. Free agent lists until free agency start don't mean much since many plaers are re-signed.

There should be fewer players released this year since they is no cap. Teams can wait or not release player at all.

i agree what everyting you said. i just don't see the pats makeing a lot of moves at lest not for big names. with no cap you have a lot of good players looking for franchise money. i can't see the pats over paying for any one.

i would be realy happy if the pats sign cory redding, Nate Burleson, larry foote, and re-sign TBC and bodden, and fill out the roster in the draft.

That would be cool, what bout big Vincey?

I think we are much closer than people are giving us credit for. We lost 4 game, that we lead in the 4th quarter, by a combined total of 10 pts. If we had won half of those we are 12-4 and battling for the two seed. I really find it hard to believe that they would trade any of their picks for a player (unless it was a real sweetheart of a deal i.e. Randy Moss) or make any major free agent signing other than re signing our free agents. I think guys like Foote and Burleson are realistic. I'm excited for next season simply for the fact that I believe we only need a few more pieces to put together a real nice team.

I'm really looking forward to it. With Mcdaniels, Pioli and Parcells out there its like taking responsibility for 3 stepchildren. I am especially concerned about Ben Watson's status. How much will others pay for Watson, with all that unfulfilled potential. Can he ever find away to catch 80 passes in a season somewhere else that I thought he was capable of in Foxboro. I know Pats love to hold their tight ends in for protection, but I love watching big tight ends in full stride bowl over cornerbacks.

This is the most uncertainty the Pats have gone into an offseason with in a very long time - maybe 2000 or 2002. With a few right moves they could easily be right back as a SB contender. Without some right, they could also easily fall to below 500 next season.

Anxious or excited - no because they usually don't make a big splash in FA so being excited about it seems to be a setup for disappointment.

Interested and intrigued might be a better way to describe it. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

My excitement is tempered. I am prepared to lose Bodden, Green, Neal. Not prepared to lose Faulk or TBC, assume they will be back, along with RFAs Mankins and Ghost.

I think there will be a number of mid-level FA signings. Not anticipating any big FA splashes, but if there's one thing I've learned being a BB Pats fan, expect the unexpected.

My excitement is also tempered. I've been disappointed by FA signings (or lack of) too often. I hope Bodden returns; if not, it's another position to be replaced.

I also look for a FA to be taken at WR...possibly Kevin Walter. Good Value.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see BB make trades to gain a few more picks in the 2nd and 3rd rnds of this draft. There seem to be many very solid players projected as 2nd or early to mid 3rd rounders. I haven't wanted to see him do it in the past but this year I think it actually makes a lot of sense.

The last big splash by the Pats in FA resulted in one of the best teams in NFL history. Let's hope we see something similar this year.

I am pretty excited mostly because the changes loom larger than any year since 2002-2003

There's a lot of chatter here that seems to be hoping that the Pats can reenact the creation of the 2003/04 through 2007 teams. I think we have to be careful about getting too far ahead of ourselves. Our QB is still great but eight years older. We don't have the same core of lockerroom leadership (guys like Vrabel and Brewski). I'm not saying that great things can't happen in 2010, just that we should be careful about what we expect.

It's a little bit like, we went through the stages of Denial and Anger last season when we slowly realized that the 2007 team hadn't reappeared with Tommy's return and now we're "Bargaining" that somehow something new and great can be created again.

Don't get me wrong, this will be a solid, competitive team no matter what happens in the Draft and FA; I'm not sure we can bet that it will become another "team for the ages."

Listen buddy, we're going to sign everyone and never punt or give up a first down conversion next year. Get ready.

I cant wait to wake up tomorrow morning and get on nfl.com asap!

Action plans first and foremost, is Sign Peppers honestly i'm excited to see what BB could do running the defense with a stud at outside rush linebacker it's been mentioned before, he makes the pass rush exceptionally better the secondary better with or without Bodden. Honestly if we go into next year with Peppers and TBC as our pass rush that's pretty darn good. You pick up a Kirk Morrison to thump the middle. Resign Bodden or draft a defensiveback in the middle round to compete to replace. Offensively I'd love to see Brandon Marshall brought in he's young he's Strong has great field awareness excellent hands I badly wanted both him and Chad Jackson Drafted well least we got 1 of them. Then in the draft you take a game changer like Best, and take Ben Tate, the offense is great, the Defense is good to great, and were favorites for another lombardi. How do you make this cap room thing work well, you trade AD for a new gray hoodie., You trade, cut matt light, you let watson walk and draft his replacement in the middle rounds. Cut Shawn Springs, Fred Taylor, trade Maroney to washington for i dunno a practice squad punter. And you say Championship! Alas This isn't Madden and I doubt any of those moves happen but it be great. I really really want best though he makes this offense, any offense explosive, if we don't land Peppers, I want to draft Ricky Sapp, Everson Griffin, Koa misi, Jerry Hughes, any 2 out out of those to try to generate some kind of linebacker pass rush.

OK. You make a compelling argument, as usual, PJ! You convinced me. 19--0 here we come!

Not at all, I cant wait until the draft though, doubt the Pats make too many moves, Id be happy with Dansby though.

Same here. The problems we have can still be fixed through the draft and with smart (not huge) pickups in FA.

Why do people always talk about the 2009 season as if the Pats went 5-11? Yes, it was disapointing, but the Pats' disapointing season is what 2/3 of this league would call a successful season.

On it's face, the Pats are not that far away from being a contender assuming they retain most of their free agents and add a few more pieces. The Pats uncharacteristically gave up four fourth quarter leads in 2009 that if they held onto them, would have gone 14-2. That means there is enough almost enough talent on this team to be a contender, but need a few more pieces to push them over the top to get there.

Now if the Pats stand still and let guys like Bodden and TBC go, then they could be in trouble. But if they add three or four solid (if not spectacular) free agents, this team could turn around and win 12-14 games and be a legitimate contender. They might not, but it isn't like this team is devoid of talent. In fact, they have some young players who might come around quite a bit with a few more veteran leaders.

There are no guarantees, but the Pats have been agressive in the past to get players to fix holes and turned around quickly. Brady might not be 25 anymore, but he is still in his prime. He is 31, not 38. Let's not make it sound like he is past his prime.
