Are they just being overly cautious with their rookie second round pick or is this a Manny "I'm out for six weeks" Ramirez kind of injury? It seems I haven't heard a word about him through the entire camp and preseason. How bad can it be?

Bad, the PFW crowd on the webcast mentioned behaviors that possibly indicate brain damage, this could be a really severe hamstring injury of that is the case...

When someone is out this long with a hammy, it was/is bad - no doubt about it.

I can't remember where I read it, but at one point there was a report that he injured it in a surprise windsprint drill ordered by the coaches. Jackson hadn't properly stretched out but ran anyway.

I'd expect this might give the coaching staff pause in repeating such surprise drills without making 100% sure that everyone has stretched out. Ultimately I think its the players responsibility to stretch out, but in the case of a rookie if I were a coach I'd make sure.

When I had a 2nd or 3rd degree hamstring tear myself it took a long time healing - the bruise on the back of my thigh was about 12 inches long and 5 inches wide by the next day - so obviously there was serious truama in the muscle.

Its still tight today with lots of scar tissue in there - but of course I don't have the benefit of working with a trainer - so whatever can be done for Jackson, I'm sure IS being done - but ultimately time is what is needed to heal that injury.

In any event, as big a Jackson booster as I was pre-draft I've always kept my expectations for year one somewhat low - and know that even some of the best WRs have been completely ineffective in year one - so I'm zen with the thought that he might not be a factor at all this season but will be a long term contributer for years to come.

Hey, look at the bright side: Nobody has any film on him from preseason!

The Pat's would probably want to get Jackson back for the Denver game, which will be a nationally- broadcast game Sept 24. on NBC. I would guess that both Jackson and Gabriel out on deep routes would be very challenging for a defense if Brady can deliver the ball.

Great. PFW says it, you repeat it, and now it's qualified to be cited as 'rumblings' in the Herald. Yay Box.

Scar tissue can run from your hamstring all the way to your cerebral cortex?

For all too many, that is a very short trip...

Not sure, but it's useless to cloud the issue with facts when we're talking about PFW or the Herald.

I'll leave the diagnosis to you, Dr. Box.

Who's this Manny Ramirez?

I don't remember him being on the roster during Training Camp.

If you tear a muscle, you're generally out for six weeks.
He's been out for a month, so....

I think they cite the initial injury as going back to the end of minicamps in June. I'll try to remember where I read that report.

That would make this about 9 weeks now.

That's how I remember it, with a 3 practice return about the second week of August.

That would make it month.

I think we need to get him back as soon as possible. He needs game experience if he's gonna develop into the kind of player we're really gonna need for the stretch run and playoffs. Until he gets on the field we have no idea what we've got. I hope we can get him back for at least the Jets game so he's got one game under his belt before the Denver game, a game that I really think can set the tone of the season. One thing I think is for sure, we're not gonna see him out there until he is 100%. Hopefully that is getting close...

I think he reinjured it since then when he tried to make one of his comebacks in training camp.
