The Pats look to have a minimum of eight UDFA players on their roster. Wes Welker and Larry Izzo, proved themselves elsewhere, while the other half dozen are home-grown: Mike Wright, Randall Gay, Danny Baugher*, Eric Alexander, Pierre Woods, and starter Stephen Neal. Add in the possibilities of having Gutierrez and Britt, and that number could hit double digits.

It always amuses me to hear people complaining about how, for example, the Pats missed on someone like Marques Colston. (A) 31 other teams did, too, and (B) the Pats have scored far more talent in the late rounds/UDFA market than we fans have any right to expect.

In other words--we should all thank our lucky stars the Pats have such a first-rate scouting organization. :rocker:

*Yeah, Baugher originally signed with the Bungles, but he was cut so soon that I'm counting him as a Patriot.

Wesley Britt was not an UDFA. He was a fifth round pick of the San Diego Chargers. He fell to that position from a first day ranking because he broke his leg very badly, late in his Senior year at 'Bama, and most teams thought he would be inviable to play his rookie year. He had great credentials; He was a three year all SEC offensive tackle.

San Diego still took him and cut him when it was obvious that his rookie season was indeed going to be a washout, as his leg recovered.

BB/SP swooped in and gave him a year on the PS to recover and learn, and now have a pretty good reserve-near starter tackle, that can play both ROT and ALSO the critical LOT. It was he who drove Ashworth and Gorin off the team, while he survived.

BTW... he had one of the key blocks that sprung Heath Evans for his big run against the Panthers. He got into the secondary and blocked a LB...
