A Sign of an imminent Troy signing?????

I expect that the Pats are likely to find a way to stick Troy on the roster for another year. He's been a great patriot and is still a versitale, valued contributer. Yes, there are a lot of receiver options now, but that's ok, he still gives us valuable depth and experience and is so versatile. I assume they'll find a way to work things out as they have in the past.

If not, while dissapointed, I'll be ok with what we have.
Sums it all up...I think he will sign here..and maybe coach...when he retires...

I don't know if it means anything, but I heard a report that Troy was seen at the Pats off season training program? Any truth to that rumor?

I don't know if it means anything, but they reported on the Patriots.com weekly radio program, that Troy was seen at the Pats off season training program? Could that be concidered a sign?

Stallworth, Welker, Caldwell, at this point, I would consider to be the starters. Gaffney came on strong in the late season, had a good playoff run and could really be very close to Caldwell on the depth chart. That's four - it's also the number of WR's the Pats were dressing most of the time last year. There's more talent at that position now so, say they dress 5 on game days. That leaves a slot for Troy until Jackson is ready. But what if Washington comes out of his career long sleep walk and tears it up in TC? He was behind some very talented WR's in Cincy and he might have pigeon holed a bit as well. Plus, you'd have to think that Washington is extremely motivated to prove he belongs in the NFL. That's six, seems like too many - and I am not even considering that Childress sticks, or that the Pats draft a WR.

Micheal Holley gave a spirited defense of Brown yesterday, suggesting that Brown would make the team before Gaffney, Washington, or even Caldwell would.

I think Troy's an exception to the rule and you don't look at how many spots open etc. you just know BB and his teammates appreciate what he brings and figure they'll find ways to use him regardless of who else is better.

I wouldn't assume he's gone because you don't see his place on the team.

Holley was right...throw logic out the window with this one.

If the New England Patriots cannot find a spot for this FOOTBALL player that is the LEADER of the team and it's HEART & SOUL, then, I am telling you right now, a trip to Arizona in Feb. will be much, much harder to achieve.

As far as I am concerned, we must sign Troy Brown to this team for this season.

I wouldn't say it's a must.
But it's an extremely nice to have move and provides a huge comfort level in people's minds.

Troy has a lot of intangible talents that he brings. I'm confident he'll be here.

For all those who think pictures in the website tell them anything. The following conversation was provided by a former disgruntled Patriots employee.

Brrrrrinnng...........Brrrinnggggg

HAH !!
Hilarious!

People come up with some amazing theories don't they!

It's all part of a master plan!

Holley is being sentimental. These Patriot's never throw logic out the window. They do what they think is best for the team. I think it will be real difficult for Troy to make the team this year, but we shall see.

I don't think it will be difficult at all.
In fact, if they sign him, in my mind he'll automatically be on the team.
I don't think he's really competing with the other receivers for a spot.
I think he's more of a leader and versitile guy and depth spot and he's the only one for that job.
I see Stallworth, Welker, and Caldwell as the starters.
I see Jaffney and Washington/Jackson as the backups.
Troy adds depth and is great to have for any emergencies, but maybe I'm wrong, maybe they will cut ties with him this year.
But I don't think it's an accident that the whole locker room is lobbying for the front officed to bring him back. Think about that. Why would they do that given all the receivers they've signed? Because he's different.

Precisely HOW MANY players at each spot on offense do we keep then?
How many at each position on D?
There is still a 53 player limit.

When you go to the Pats homepage...

Troy's picture is the second slide that comes up. I think last year, we caught on to something like this just before re re-signed.

Dale just said on EEI, that he has it on good authority that Troy is attending the off-season workout program.

Oh my God, I think he nailed it! Nice job.

It sounds a little bit like the "Roman Phifer name plate" conspiracy we had to listen to a couple of years ago.

If Troy can win a competition and make the squad all the better. If not then "Thank you #80 for everything"

don't know, and neither does BB.
He doesn't go to camp with a plan of I'll have this many of this and this many of that. He sees who's done what at the end of camp and decides who should saty and what he needs.

Another way to look at it is this:
wha tposition do you 'count' troy brown as?
punt returner?
nickel corner back?
slot receiver?
and how many players can do all three?
AND has brady's complete confidence in crunch time?

nobody knows if troy will be back but we're just saying everyone would like to see him back for the securty he brings to in so may different scenarios.

do you want him back if they decide they have a spot for him?

And there is an eighty some odd player limit in March because unlike their fan base this FO doesn't assign roster spots until they see who earns them. They won't know that for a fact for another 5 months. How many of the guys who project for the 45th through 53rd spots on this roster in March can play WR/PR/CB/QB?

4th and 5th WR's on this team generally have to have some multi-tasking capacity, which is why i think some here and in the media aren't convinced that both Gaffney and Caldwell are locks to make this year's roster should both Stallworth and Washington grasp the offense and perform well enough through camp and pre season to push them down the depth chart because neither plays ST. One of the perceived roster locks could easily be on the trading block for the equivalent of a comp pick before Labor Day (not to mention on IR). Jackson could well be cleared to play by then, but if he isn't cleared to play before then it's highly likely he starts the season on PUP. Childress and Kight remain a candidates for the PS or shadow roster.

I see Caldwell as a lock.
I see Washington, Jackson, and Gaffney as backups fighting for spots.
I get the feeling they wouldn't have signed washington just to cut him but I could be wrong. gaffney is a tough one, he came in worked hard and really helped us out once he started to get in sync with brady. he came up big in the playoffs. I'd hate to just dump him after that because it seems like he was starting to work well with tom. jackson - who the heck knows what his story is? we're all very high on his prospects, and sounds like BB is too, but something doesn't make sense, unless BB jusr decided to go heavy on receivers for some reason we havn't figured out yet!

Rhetoric and emotion, but still unanswered is how MANY players at which positions kept on Offense with Brown on the team. Total = 53. Unless someone can long snap 3 positions go to the kicking game leaving 50. You need depth at each position, unless you assume the ostrich position regarding injury.

I was just thinking that we could use another quarterback this year, perhaps Grogan is still available.

Because of Jackson's injury and the likelihood that he will spend at least half the season on PUP, so Brown being on the opening day roster is pretty likely IMHO. He would also be aided by the new rule that allowes 47 actives. That means it would be more likely that Brown would be active on game days if he remains on the team. Finally, there WILL BE injuries.

BOTTOM LINE - IF Troy want to play. I think the Pats will let him see what the market out there is for him. Then make him an offer, and see what he does.
