Aside from the prediction, this is the best football magazine I have ever seen. Have you noticed how thick it is? Sporting News did a really good job of going in depth on every team this year. By far the best magazine out there. A must have!

eh, we see things a little differently. it is what it is. the Cowboys managed to beat Indy last year, so you definitely have a different perspective.

as for your little jab, the Patriots have had a relatively poor couple of years and have played 5 playoff games. The Cowboys have played 1.

It wasn't meant to be a jab, that is why I prefaced it by saying The Colts and Pats are my 1 and 2 in the NFL, and not particularly in that order either. What I'm trying to say is that as a fan you go by what you see. You've seen The Patriots handle the NFC teams they've played, and you've seen them in the regular season (they've done great in the playoffs) at time struggle with the Tier 2 AFC East teams. This would lead a fan to think that these Tier 2 teams are better than the Tier 1 NFC teams, but I was just trying to say that isn't necessarily the case.

I think your elites are better than our elites, but not that your "very goods" which is what I'd consider that second tier, are better than our top tier.

Sorry if that came off the wrong way, I think the Patriots have been incredible in this decade, believe me I wasn't trying to insult the team, and if I was I wouldn't use the past 6 years for my example. (Probably would run with the 5 Lombardi's, 23 seasons of 10+ wins, most playoff victories in NFL history, etc )

I've just had a chance to skim through it. But it is thick. It does hve the "hot 99" college prospects listed for next years draft.

I picked up the Sporting News NFL Preview yesterday.

They have the Patriots picked to win the Super Bowl.:rocker: But, they have them playing the Cowboys.

they predicted also the final score ? just a curiosity

No teams with a first year coach & staff has EVER made the SB. The Cowboys have a first year coach.

As do the Steelers and Chargers.

And Wade Phillips is not a coach of the first rank. I will never forget his benching of Flutie in favor of Ron Johnson in the playoff game against the Titans. I can think of no other coach in NFL history who benched the starting quarterback who led his team into the playoffs in favor of the second stringer who won the last meaningless game of the season. Be interesting to see if he does it with Romo. By the way, Andy Reid is far and away the best coach in the NFC East.

As In Recent Years, The Trick Will Be To Win The Afc. The Four Best Teams In The Nfl Are In Our Conference (pats, Colts, Broncs & Bolts). And I Think The Saints Are On Par With The Bears, 'boys & Eagles.

Substitue Ravens for Broncos.

It beats the writers picking Carolina for the 40th year.

I would agree it's not like they are a clear favorite, just that they showed some signs of positive things last year. Their star receiver led the league in touchdowns despite playing through a broken hand and that's now healed, and they improved their secondary, pass rush, and offensive lines, which were the three biggest weaknesses.

Not thrilled with Wade Phillips as a head coach, but it's not like there is an overwhelming Belichick-level coach in the conference. So basically as Romo goes so will this team, just needs to not be forced to do so much as he was in the Philly and New Orleans games and they should be fine, and he is thankfully off the PAT team now.

And as far as all the jokes along with that, he might not have been able to hold that snap, but he was able to hold a lead against The Colts, which is more than some quarterbacks could say last year...

Yes because a teams qb is responsible for stopping the other team from scoring points when the opposing offense is on the field. Pretty sure giving up a huge lead is the defenses fault. When Brady takes a sH!t he has accomplished more then Tony "Butterfingers" Romo has on a football field.

With the ball in their own red zone and 3 minutes left Romo was able to pile up first downs vs The Colts and they ran the clock out successfully. Tom Brady was unable to do that in the AFC Championship. That's what I meant.

Personally, I thought giving up the lead was more Belichick's fault than anyone elses. He is the greatest coach of all time, but running the ball 5 times with an 18 point lead was questionable at best in my opinion.

Either way it was just a joking response to good-natured ball busting about his fumble by others on this board. If you read any of my other posts you would know I have the utmost respect for The Patriots and Brady.

I actually think the Cowboys will win the NFC this year. This is why.

1) The new coach. And I'm not suggesting that Wade Phillips is better than Bill Parcells, but the team as a whole seemed sluggish under Parcells and he didn't seem to have the motivational fire to get them going any more. Players feel rejuvinated.

2) Terrell Owens and the new coach. Making a coaching change buys you a (relatively speaking) quiet year out of T.O. If the Cowboys win games early, Owens will be a happy camper, and will produce far more under Phillips then he did under Parcells.

3) Demarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer and Bobby Carpenter. Under Parcells version of the 3-4 (which is closer to the Patriot version) the greatest strength of Ware was underutilized. In Phillips system (the San Diego 3-4) Ware and Spencer will go after the passer more, and Dallas has a far better secondary than San Diego did. This defense could generate more pass rush than the Chargers a year ago, and should be among the league leaders in interceptions.

The main questions in my mind are Tony Romo and the run defense. I think Romo is a middle of the pack QB, not as good as his first 5 starts indicated, but better than he played near the end of the season. Dallas has enough offensive weapons (Owens and Glenn, Whitten and Fasano, Jones and Barber) to mask his weaknesses as a QB, and he'll manage the team to 11 or so wins.

As for the run defense, the defensive line is not nearly as good as the one Phillips had in San Diego, so the pressure will be on the pass rush and secondary to pick up the slack. In my mind this is the one area where that could spell the Cowboys demise in the playoffs, a team like Seattle or New Orleans could run Dallas into the ground. But for now I say they will hold up.

If Dallas ever makes the Super Bowl under Wade Phillips, I'll buy a cowboy hat and eat it.

I didn't know our quarterback played defense...Who knew? Anyhow, picking Dallas to make the Super Bowl isn't going to happen. Saints will be there in the end with their coach Sean Payton. Too bad you guys can't get coaches like him.

Jerry Jones LOL

Jerry Jones won as many Super Bowls in his first 7 years with The Cowboys as your franchise has won in its history. I'd save my LOL's for a organization that deserves them if I were you.

And if Brady had Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn to throw to he would have been able to hold the lead as well.

Brady could have held it with one of them. He wouldn't even need both TO and Glenn. I bet Terry Glenn is a little mad he didn't stay with the Pats. He could have Brady throwing to him
