A note on veteran "guaranteed salaries"

Just a quick point of clarification here. The NFL does not, strictly speaking, guarantee veteran salaries.

Instead, they offer "termination pay." This is a system that allows veterans to get paid if they are released mid-season. The main thing to note is that to be eligible to receive a full season of termination pay, they must be on the 53-man roster for Week 1, and then be released after it. So, for example, Bodine does not qualify, as he was released before their Week 1 game.

Termination pay is "explained," in the trademark confusing and inimical way of the CBA in Article 30.
 
Speaking of money.

Tierod Hill just got a new contract from the Chiefs.
 
IIRC, a player can only get termination pay once in his career.....I also expect some roster turnover starting Monday when salaries are not guaranteed. I wonder if that is why guys like Ryan Allen haven't been signed.... After watching him in the Super Bowl, you can't tell me that he wouldn't be an improvement on more than a few teams...
