A Mid-Level WR Free Agent Show Me Contract

How many Wes Welker threads did we have last year?

I took a different perspective. Folks seem to be want a mid-level receiver. The best that can be had for $3M, increasing by a million a year plays for us.

Over the next 6 weeks, I suspect that it will take a few more threads before we are more understanding of the choices involved.

As you indicated, this is one decision that needs to be made by March 11. Also, this is an important decision for the team.

How many Danny Amendola threads can we have?

Who would you sign to this deal? I guess we could throw in workout bonuses and game bonuses of $500K per year. Obviously, if the player doesn't work out he can be cut after the season, or even cut later this season and replaced by a $1M replacement.

2014 $2M bonus, $1M salary

2015 $4M

2016 $5M

2017 $6M

In my opinion you either acquire a big name player like Fitzgerald or you keep developing the young receivers. I would rather give a youngster who has never had a chance to prove a chance to for a minimum investment than a player who has a chance to prove it elsewhere and failed for a larger sum of money.

I just feel that having multiple threads on the same subject provides a disservice to the rest of the board.

What value is there?

This is not a knock on Amendola but Miguel is right we don’t need 5 Amendola threads going at once.

Welker – 741 catches, 8145 yards, 41 touchdowns in a Patriots uniform.
Amendola – 57 catches, 710 yards, 2 touchdowns in a Patriots uniform.

The significance of them 2 had Patriots is not even in the same galaxy, Welker had more playoff catches than Amendola has period in a Patriots uniform. Welker was one of the finest players of the Belichick era, Amendola played 1 season of average football.

Fair enough

Let us both not start new threads when there is already a threat about a player. There will be many fewer threads started . I suspect that there will also be many few posts.

Not an FA, But Jags would take a low pick for WR Justin Blackmon to bail. If his hab went well he might be the steal of the year talent wise. He is schedule to be reinstated.

Prove you can stay sober Justin.

This would be an amazing low-risk/high-reward play if they could get him for a third. I had him on my FF team so watched him a lot this year and from a physical standpoint it's CJ-Gordon-Blackmon in some order. Obviously we know his off-field issues, but on-the-field he'd be the best WR Brady has had since Moss.

Not trying to give you a hard time lord knows I am guilty of the thread starter disorder more than anyone. I think it is easier to sustain a discussion though when we keep the threads down (at least at the same time) because I find myself basically repeating my opinion almost exactly in 1 thread as I did another.

For the record it is a good question and you did a great job breaking down the question in a more understandable manner in this thread and in the “would you sign any of these players” thread. I think the posts themselves have excellent value, and I think they would generate the same discussion within the thread about a player that already exists.

As I said, I will comply with Miguel's request.

Most here want to spend around $3M on a mid-level free agent. Discussing who is the best choice IMHO is a reasonable discussion

What you and Miguel suggest is that this discussion be on the 10th page of threads that consider whether to keep Amendola. What this really means is that we shouldn't really discuss our choices among free agent wide receivers, since having the Amendola decision and having Amendola on the team is critical to all those discussions.

As I said, I simply won't open threads on the subject of wide receivers. After all, we already have several. In the end, we will be forced to look down through a few pages of threads and see whether any thread is related. IMHO, the result is simply fewer posts.

We had this issue after games during the season. We had a choice. Read through 500-1000 posts on the post-game thread or have any new thread merged. I just stopped posting much.

This is a critical time of year. This decision is one that must be made in the next six weeks. I guess, we'll just stop discussing it and see what happens.

=========

I might as well give an example. A couple of days after a game, I might want to discuss how the running backs played, or how the OL played, or how DT played. The choice was post on one very long thread or not post at all (or be merged). For me, that meant that literally dozens of threads were all intertwined.

Just skip to the last page. That's what I do in most situations, if I duplicate someone else oh well it's the nature of the beast.

Don't stop posting you had a ton of great value to discussions.

We've got threads on the front page where the last comment made was more than 48 hours ago, so the board's not exactly hopping right now.

If people don't want repetitive threads, even during slow times, I'm all in favor of those people starting new threads about different topics. We certainly could use threads breaking down each positional group its needs, its financials and suggestions on what to do moving forward, for example, and I don't believe that all positions have such a thread right now.

When you limit the main board to only Patriots talk, this is what happens in the slow times. We see it year after year, which is why, on more than one occasion, I've suggested getting rid of that as a hard and fast approach to moderation during the slow times, and opting for more leeway as long as topics are drawing interest.

I'm really enjoying the posters who on one hand hate Amendola for being unable to stay on the field, and on the other hand clamor for Danario Alexander. I'm not even sure where to start explaining how little sense that makes.

$5m for the Welker replacement who couldn't get the job done v. $1 million for a WR5 replacement. What's the difficulty?
