A 55 burger on a Steelers D...almost 200 yards rushing... 630 yards of offense

I can't recall a 50 burger in The BB era. What is the most a Pats D has given up since 2000?

The blowouts I recall are of the 31-0 season opener to BUF 2003 variety, not the 51-24 kind.

Exactly. 41 points to the niners last year is the worst in the last few years.

41 to the Steelers, 41 to the Chargers with Wade Phillips infamous remarks and then the 49ers.

I think 41 is the highest.

I'm glad we got the win. I'm glad our offense had some fun out there and chance to click in an in-game atmosphere. But beyond that, there's not much I'm taking away from this beatdown. Steelers are pretty terrible.

Glad we got 2 weeks to prepare for Cam Newton and I hope the NFL doesn't sacrifice us as the statement win Carolina needs in order to be taken seriously with flags at the most inopportune times.

Looked it up.

The Patriots franchise has only given up 50+ once in their history, a 52-0 loss to Miami in 1972.

The most points in a game allowed in the BB era was the Niners game last year and the blowout loss to the Chargers at home in 2005 (41)

I'm actually worried about the Carolina game, but not for the same reasons you are. I'm worried that it's a trap game. The team will be coming off an impressive win against the Steelers and a bye with Denver on the horizon the week after. Given that, and the fact that the Panthers actually have a pretty good defense, I'm not expecting an awe-inspiring win.

I predicted a 3 point loss, apparently i know nothing about football. i am idiot and will now retreat to the shadow.Great way to way to go on a bye that we desperately needed.

....i did it to make them strong

I predicted a multi-TD win, but didn't see 55 points total and a 24 point win coming.

I see that went straight over your head. It's not that hard of a concept.

My point was people are treating the win today like "Wow, we hung 55 points one one of the most storied defenses in the league." Well, sure the Steelers have a rich history of some incredible defensive units. But not this year. Now, if we beat the Broncos in a few weeks, even by just a little bit, then I'll be thoroughly impressed.

I doubt anyone actually thinks the 2013 Steelers have "one of the most storied defenses in the league". But I disagree they are "bad". I'm just happy to see the Pats pound the tar out of a team I despise.

The Broncos defense is in the bottom third of the NFL in points, total yards, 30th in the league in pass yards, and bottom half of the NFL in sacks. Their secondary is a hot mess. They have played two top 10 scoring teams this year, one is the Cowboys and the other is the Colts, and got lit up by both of them. They've also played two bottom-5 scoring teams.

Not sure I agree they are the measuring stick for this offense that you think they are.

In the last three halves of football, the New England Patriots have scored

24 vs Dolphins (2nd half)
24 vs. Steelers (1st half)
31 vs. Steelers (2nd half)

Fundamentally, what we're seeing is an offense with Gronkowski and Amendola on the field together show the complexity that opposing defenses have to contend with. The running game is the genuine article.

The offense gets better after the bye with Shane Vereen bringing the added dimension of a pass catching back who can also split wide and beat anybody's fourth or fifth DB.

Carolina has the 49ers next weekend to contend while the Patriots heal up during their bye week and prepare for them. The Broncos are going to face the Patriots without their head coach after playing their biggest divisional threat at home in KC. Things are lining up for the Patriots to have a real shot at winning both of those games before they head into the remainder of the schedule against teams with losing records.

This Patriots team has faced more adversity than any I can remember except for the 2008 team, and has a legitimate shot at getting an opening round bye. In my book, Belichick and his staff are doing the best job in the league.

Yes they're a running team and we struggle badly against the run.
