I think two of the others were probably the result of the NFL's attempt to figure out which of his many songs would have a patriotic edge.

tom petty is cool but hes a lil old..they need younger groups to do the super bowl halftime show that have a lot more energy..i guess after the janet jackson incident they only allow the "safest" acts to perform haha

Methinks this will be a lot like the Prince halftime show last year; a great performer who many think is not the right type for the Super Bowl but will put on an excellent show.

I've seen Petty live and few acts are better.
