I am not a big fan of the Pats playing in Beijing, though I understand they are because Kraft and the Pats have spear-headed thedrive to infect China with NFL Football Fever. However, to top things off, the Pats will still have to play 3 MORE pre-season games once they get back.

I see three potential outcomes, of which only 1 is good.

1) Patriots are on track and everything is clicking
2) Patriots are fatigued by the time regular season starts.
3) Half the team is fatigued and the other half is ok.

I just hope the Chinese don't expect the starters to play the entire game.

If Jack Bauer can get off a plane from two years of prison in China and then be running around chasing terrorists minutes after, I think Jac-...err...Bill Belichick and crew will be just fine.

Here's my expectation/prediction:

Game 1 in Seattle - all subs all day long. Starters rest for China.
Game 2 in China - Starters play a quarter at most. With all due respect to the Chinese, I doubt they care if Tom Brady or Matt Cassel is playing QB.
Game 3 in Foxboro - starters go for a half
Game 4 - starters for 3 quarters
Game 5 - all starters rest for the opener on Sept 6th

Don't expect the players to even play in 4 out of 5. I expect the established players to be given alot of time off. If anything this gives an opportunity to players like Marquise Hill, Pierre Woods, Willie Anders, CJ, Heath Mills.

I wonder if some of the starters will even go to China

when did it come out they were playing 5 pre-season games?

edit: Disregard I just read Reiss' blog.

Since there is so much traveling involved I dont understand why they wouldn't take a week off during the preseason on not play a game one weekend in August.

I doubt they'll be tired, Belichick will manage it well. As others have said we have plenty of young guys who can use the game time - especially one with initials CJ.

Who does Jack Bauer play for?

Do 5 preseason games = more injuries? I don't like it, too much of a pounding already, why add a game??.. give them a week off after the china trip to recover from all of the travel. I have always had a theory about our injury bug, was that because we have extended the season every year our players are on the field more less recovery time, thus more injuries. This makes no sense to me.

What a great chance.Put starter alot for first 2 games and then the last to get in game shape. Also, work on brady and WR`s.....this is going to develop alot of chemistry and time to break in our new rookie class and the 5 games to identify the next ILB`s and CB`s.

belichick will manage it....

hopefully he will. but the nfl may pressure him to take all starters to china. further, traveling 20,000 miles RT to play a football game is not gonna help anybody. hope they "manage' the whole food thing well.

does jack bauer play for the patriots?
hell, does marquise hill?
