A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.

How would you describe Bruschi's scenario?

From ESPN.com:

Mike: Every year, Bill Belichick seems to have a surprise up his sleeve. We should keep in mind that the Patriots made seven draft-day trades last year, one unexpectedly including cornerback Ellis Hobbs. Of course, we all remember the trade for receiver Randy Moss in 2007. With this in mind, maybe he wheels one of those top picks for an impact veteran. My personal feeling is that if you can get someone like Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth for a second-rounder, it's a no-brainer. Then you lock in on the 4-3 defense.

Fail...Haynesworth does not seem to be the type of team player BB goes after and its obvious he does not like to move around much, another thing BB does not care for - he likes versatility.

didn't they just pay him 20m?

I agree with Reiss, but it seems like fantasy land that Haynesworth is traded to the Patriots.

A 4-3 with Wilfork/Haynesworth in the middle would be beastly. I think Myron Pryor would really be effective in limited snaps rushing the passer inside spelling either of the starters. I think Warren could handle the LDE spot, but the Pats don't have anyone on the roster to play RDE. My interest in Brandon Graham in round 1 would be significantly higher if he could be a full time DE as I think that fits his skill set best.

The other hole(s) on the roster would be linebacker. Would Guyton play the strongside spot or the weakside spot? I think probably the weakside spot with McKenzie the front runner at the strongside spot. The Pats would need to add another LB to compete with McKenzie to play over the TE at sam.

Burgess is always available to play his natural position as a 4-3 DE. It wouldn't be ideal, but you could make do with a Wright/Burgess rotation there. Banta-Cain maybe coming in as a nickel rusher.

As for LB, the whole is in the middle, not the outside. Mayo is a natural WLB and Guyton is made to be a SLB because of his coverage ability. But there's no natural 4-3 MLB on the roster unless McKenzie can do it. Trade Adalius for Urlacher?

Assuming we could magically manifest some DE's for a 4-3, Wilfork and Haynesworth would be an incredible match up against most interior linemen, however, we would still need those magical DE's.

I give this situation about a 15-20% of happening, I think BB likes the flexibility that the 3-4 offers as far as scheme design. I see no reason to think he'll abandon it other than some ideas thrown around by people about the 4-3 'attack defense' as a possible way to revamp our defense in 1 maybe 2 more years, instead of a possibly longer rebuilding.

Tyrone McKenzie - Official New England Patriots Biography
2006 (IOWA STATE): 2006 All-Big 12 Second Team selection ... Finished eighth in the nation with 10.75 tackles per game in 12 appearances ... Had 129 total tackles ... 9.5 tackles for loss with two sacks ... Also forced four fumbles and had one interception with a 17-yard return ... Started all 12 games at middle linebacker ... Had career-best 16 tackles vs. Northern Iowa ... Twice had 15 stops vs. Toledo and Oklahoma.

How much $ though? What would his future contract with us look like? It all depends on that.

Haynesworth himself has stated that he won't play in a 3-4. Placing a malcontent in a system that he won't play in...... I don't think BB is that stupid.

Again, according to Reiss' scenario, the Pats would get Haynesworth and switch to the 4-3.

They did, his bonus came through. But his contract isn't that bad if he gets traded
I think the point was from the Skins position.

It isn't likely for the Skins to pay a guy $20 mil and then trade him for a second round pick.

Is that for def?

If they have paid him the roster bonus and we can pick up for a second it would be mighty tempting

Albert Haynesworth
2010: $3.6 million
2011: $5.4 million
2012: $6.7 million, plus a $500k workout bonus.

In 2013 he's due a total of $29 million, so he's essentially signed for three years before he'll be cut.
