I'd love to know who the PFSN simulator has in the top 100 if all those prospects sit outside it.

I don't agree with many the PFSN rankings:

- Robinson about right
- Peak hard to evaluate given injury
- Echoles (68), KVA (90), Perich (115) and Benefield (150) way too low.
- I won't even comment on Boubacar Traore at 269

The NFL mock database is more in line with my thinking. Koi Perich at 40 may be a tad high for now. 70 too low for Ty Benefield. Boubacar Traore hard to assess right now, but I think he's probably a top 100 talent.

PFSN didn't really get it together until after the players announced who was staying and who was going.

Used the NFL Mock Draft Database simulator instead of PFSN. Has the Pats picking at 22. Traded around a bit and got:

I suspect Cole, Echoles, Peak and McDonald will all be near the top of my Short Board a year from now.

Frustrating. I was running a mock targeting Ray coney in the 4th and Peter Temple in the 5th. I missed out on both by one pick so I left it as a four rounder mock. I was very happy with how it went, Temple and Coney excepting.

IDK if we will even have a first rounder. But when i start doing draft prep i look at the core players first (over the next 2+ years) and go from there. When I use the term core i mean longer term solid starters you don't look to upgrade.
There spots up for help. On offense OG (after Onwenu leaves) WR (Even if we trade for Brown i think this is Hollins last year... Douglas too if he is even here). I am hopefully we solved C, OT, TE, RB and QB.

On defense DE (Landry will not be here after this year) Jacas will hopefully be good but we need a 3rd option unless he turns into a star and Ponder is a solid back up. LB (I think Elliss is gone after this year and Spillaine is a bit older. CB (Davis seems over paid and frankly we will be paying Gonzo/Jones already... so be nice to not have to pay our entire secondary elite contracts. S. We need a long term running mate for Woodson. DT is really the only spot on D i feel solid about.

You could play Cole as your passing down edge rush specialist. Jones-Jacas-Ponder-Cole and maybe Swinson isn't half bad.

That's part of why I rate a LB like Cole so high. He's above-average or better not just at mainstay LB tasks - play recognition, spying, sideline-to-sideline tackling, taking on blockers, tackling- but also as a pass rusher and in coverage. He has the ability to impact at all 3 levels of the defense, and to tie them together. KVA qualifies as well, though I think Cole has more athleticism and upside.

Following some changes to the consensus big board, I decided to try a mock. My plan was to stick to the consensus big board as much as possible rather than impose my own values on to the mock. If I'd done that, my 2nd and 3rd round picks would all be in the running for our first round pick. I used Mock Draft Database's draft simulator so there's no cheating.

Traded back, took Sammy Brown at 38, Ashton Hampton at 56, Yhonzae Pierre at 70.

I wanted an EDGE but I do like the idea of Coney as the MIKE and Cole as the EDGE/WILL chess piece. And I went with Echoles over Brown simply because I wanted to stick to the board and Echoles is ranked slightly higher, and because I could get Coney later. Perfectly happy with your scenario though.

Notes:

1. Sammy Brown + Chris Cole is my dream pairing, and the lynchpin of my draft.
2. Ashton Hampton was gone, but Jelani McDonald at 55 was a bonus.
3. I overloaded on EDGE. Jordan Ross at 68 was a bonus, then I added Marquise Lightfoot and AJ Green as late values.
4. At 124 I wanted to address OL, had the choice between Chatles Jagusah, Brandon Baker and Mo Oratokhai. Happy with any of those. I went with Jagusah as having the most size, athleticism, versatility and upside.
5. At 143 I had the choice between Peter Clarke (124) and RB Mark Fletcher (123). Knew I couldn't get both. I went with Clarke as I value Y-TE more and felt TE was a bigger need. Maybe I should have taken Fletcher and then tried to get Georgia Tech TE Chris Corbo (160). Tough choices.
6. I traded back from the 6th round 3 times and picked up 2028 7ths, knowing the guys I wanted were low on the board. I have top 100 grades on Demello Jones and AJ Green.
7. The simulator didn't have Michai Boireau in its database, so I actually picked his teammate Jeheim Oatis (904) at 245.

Sammy Brown, Chris Cole and Jelani McDonald are immediate starts, with potential to become the most versatile and athletic 2nd level in the NFL. Jordan Ross is an immediate contributor at EDGE, replacing Harold Landry, and should compete for starting reps.

Demello Jones, Marquise Lightfoot and AJ Green all have starter potentially and should be immediate depth pieces. Lightfoot and Green offer situational value and schematic versatility.

Peter Clarke and Charles Jagusah should be starters on offense.

Jidi Abasiri and Michai Boireau provide liw-cost depth and developmental upside.

Got a variant of the above where I traded back twice from 23 to 25 and 26, then got:

That would be pretty dominant. Not very realistic, though.
