- A number of people were surprised when a report surfaced stating Minnesota tight end Maxx Williams planned on entering the draft. As of two weeks ago Williams was telling people he would return to the Gophers next season. I’m told the determining factor was the second round grade Williams recently received from the advisory committee.
- Speaking of second round grades, I’m told Shilique Calhounreceived much the same and was flummoxed as he fully expected to be stamped as a first rounder despite a disappointing campaign. Word is Calhoun is still undecided as to whether or not he’ll enter the draft.
- Sources tell me the family of offensive tackle Jack Conklinhave been telling people he will return for another season at Michigan State.
- I inquired about Andrus Peat and was told all quiet on the western front as no one has been told about agent meetings or otherwise for the Stanford tackle.
- Two of his underclassmen teammates have already declared for the draft and many wonder what tight end Jesse James will do. Those close to the situation tell me while James is telling people he plans on returning to Penn State next season they expect in the end he will enter the draft.
- Sources tell me Indiana running back Tevin Coleman, who recently announced he was entering the draft, has a foot injury and had been using crutches to get around. Those familiar with the situation wonder if the junior will be ready to workout at the combine.
So Mayo's 2016 can start much as it did in 2015 with him touting Oakman and Eric Striker who is returning for his senior season.
Jalen Collins also declared from LSU, those two are the closest thing to :shut down" in this year's draft, lotta good college CBs however available (Yes I know who Marcus Peters is, however I was never high on him, overrated)Per @NEPD_Loyko, Michigan State CB Trae Waynes will leave school early, enter 2015 #NFLDraft.

Any new word if Cook might declare after leading Michigan state back against Baylor?
He's staying, could use it too, can be something very special with a little more workAny new word if Cook might declare after leading Michigan state back against Baylor?
I've seen a lot of D. Smith. He's a big kid. Prob about 6'4" 330lb. I think they asked him to get a little too big. He played LT at that weight. I think a little better conditioning will help him. I think he might make it inside in the NFL. He hasn't played there. So, it's a little bit of a projection. Smart kid. Graduated earlier this month. Has a kid. Younger kids in the program looked up to him. It's not football 24/7 when you're in college, going to class and have a kid. The ability to concentrate on football and be financially set can really help a kid like him focus. I wouldn't bet against him. Would consider him with our late 4th or that 6th from TB if we double dip on OL.
PSU's offensive line stunk this year. But, it wasn't his fault. He played with two red-shirt frosh who weren't ready, two converted dt's on the ol for the first time. The center was a first year starter too. He was the only one who had started a game prior to this year. He won't be a plug in and play guy like Urschel. But, Seattle has a kid Gary Gilliam who was a converted TE. Who didn't start at PSU ahead of Smith and a Gress kid, yet made their team this year as a UDFA.
Studying Penn St OT Donovan Smith...reminds me of DJ Fluker. Massive, powerful in the run game, avg redirect in pass pro.
http://www.fanaticalyankee.com/2015-nfl-draft-scouting-reports/category/danny flukerDanny Fluker is almost certainly going to be drafted as an Offensive Tackle ~ his Position at Alabama ~ and has even been considered on the Left Side, if I'm reading correctly...
Not only do I think that he's not suited for the Left Side, but neither do I think that he's suited for the Right.
As this Great Game becomes increasingly Speed Oriented, Right Tackles are going to need to be increasingly athletic, in order to try to deal with Edge Speed...and Danny Fluker does not qualify.
That leaves Offensive Guard, as far as I'm concerned.
And once someone figures out that that's'is best Position, he could become an exceptional one.
Hopefully, for his Sake and that of'is Team, he'll actually be drafted as one.
I'm going to grade him at his Optimum Position ~ Right Guard ~ but please note: in the unfortunately likely event that some Fool drafts'm to play Right Tackle, it could very well prove to be a Disaster.
Should be a Day 2 guy, if not for the risk of injury I would have stayed at USC, had a shot at something special in college and a shot to go Day 1, has potential to be a true NFL #1 WRNelson Agholor coming out:

His speed should rise him to an early Day 3 selection, great return man, mediocre WRMaryland WR Stefon Diggs is also declaring:

- From what I’m told Andrus Peat is now on the fence as to what his next move will be. On December 5th, I reported the word in scouting circles was Peat was likely to stay at Stanford for another season. I also mentioned, “Could he (Peat) change his mind? Never say never. People will try to get into his head and show Peat the dollar signs which await him but as I hear it the player himself wants to return to Stanford.” I’m told to some extent this is what’s taking place; Peat is weighing his desire to return to college versus the economic advantage of turning pro. A decision from Peat could come by the middle of next week.
- Tight end Jesse James of Penn State is another wrestling with his next move. I’m told James is deep into weighing his options and like Peat a decision is expected next week.
- What will be the decision of Ohio State’s Taylor Decker after the national title game? I’ve heard a variety of rumors but most area scouts believe Decker will enter the draft. The junior tackle, who has flown under the radar for much of the year, is graded as an early second round pick by scouts. I’m of the opinion Decker will slide into the late part of round one if he enters.
- On New Year’s Eve I reported on the health status of Indiana running back Tevin Coleman. Since then I’ve been informed Coleman had surgery on his ailing toe/foot in December. Once again sources I’ve spoken with question whether Coleman will be ready to workout at the combine.
- Speaking of the combine, the accepted belief is Michigan State cornerback Trae Waynes will hit it out of the park in Indianapolis. I’m told the junior should break into the 4.3’s when (if) he runs the forty the final week of February.
Daniel Jeremiah on Smith:

Fluker was a guy I was really high on in 2013, though I never expected him to go #11 overall. He's been a flop as a RT, and San Diego has announced they are moving him to guard next year - an expensive move given a cap hit of over $3M. That's another draft evaluation that Grid absolutely nailed:

Tom Telesco should have read Grid's report. I wouldn't want an unproven guard conversion with a $3M cap hit. But Smith in the late 2nd or 3rd round at reasonable money could be a good conversion prospect.
