was reading Mark Morse' roster article, and he brought up harold landry...

"Harold Landry is still on the PUP list, and although Mike Vrabel said after the game Thursday that Landry may be available for week one versus Seattle, he remains on PUP and will miss the first 4 Games. I wouldn’t be surprised if we never see Landry play again for the Patriots. That horrible contract may be one of the reasons why Christian Gonzalez isn’t signed. Landry is owed a guaranteed $16M this year."

think he's done here? fell off the cliff at the end of last tear, is still hampered by injuries which do not seem to be healing all that well, and has a bad contract... not much cap relief this year, but we save mo money in '27... recipe for release?

Landry's dead cap is greater than his cap so I don't know why they wouldn't wait this out, and see how he looks when (if) ready.

offer up an injury settlement, be done with it?

After the Ben Brown cut I am confused in how guaranteed money works, but why would Landry settle and give back guaranteed money?

not 100% certain about the mechanics of it all... but he basically get a chunk of change from us, then has the opportunity to sign elsewhere where he can get a new signing bonus, if he heals up

Ive thought for months that he wasn't coming back. Usually when a player is out with an injury and has had surgery we hear updates from time to time, usually from the player that things are coming along, making progress etc. We've heard NOTHING from landry or the team about his progress, which i interpret as negative. If he was getting better we'd hear about it

This is his last year regardless, but he's going to do his best to drag his body out there to collect what's due to him.

He's not going to be the only one on the potential chopping block. The Pats could clean house depending on whether this season is 2002 all over again. This is why I'd ideally like for Gonzo to hang tight for at least one more season before committing to him.

Morse is wrong. Landry's guarantees are $11M. Not 16M. Total cap hit is 16.35M.

Landry may be cinnamon toast crunch. Wtf is up with Woodson?

Has he been around the team this summer?

In the following article, a medical school student says Landry’s procedure was more likely one with a typical 4-6 month recovery, less likely one with a 6-9 month recovery. There are 7 months between the Super Bowl and week 1, and we don’t know how quickly after the Super Bowl he had surgery. Whether it was the more severe surgery or a little behind schedule on the less severe surgery, doesn’t seem like we’re at a catastrophic timeline quite yet.

And yeah, the whole Gonzalez non sequitur is just odd. The irrationally angry fan’s contempt for players that fall short of expectations is expected on a message board, but most writers at least attempt to remain objective and fact-driven in published pieces. That blurb reads more like fan fiction.

it was noted that he was at practice last week, working on conditioning drills per boston.com

I think he’ll play, but it probably will take a while to get out there.
