Celtics 2026-2027 Discussion

No, I would not. I'll just say that narcissistic blowhards are not my thing. A chacun son gout.
So, in other words, he's too uppity for you. Seems to me that says more about youu than it does about him.

Two years left…unless for some crazy reason a 38 year old declines a 55M payout.

There are dumb teams out there that I believe will give him a 3 year deal for $80m. That is the hope.

It'll be based on how well he plays and his health after he comes back from his suspension.

All that said, yes, we should have gotten a better return. I’d love to hear the truth from Brad, in a private conversation, why so little compensation.

Everyone in the NBA knew he was available. I have no doubt Stevens shopped him around to everyone. He probably even called the Patriots to see if they were interested.

And I also have no doubt he took the best offer that was out there. So if the question is "why so little compensation?" then the answer is "because teams just weren't offering more."

Yep, this is it in a nutshell. I’ve been pointing this out for years, but admittedly, I think Brown is better than the advanced that show simply for the reason that he has a higher upside and is capable of taking over games. And I actually like Brown as a player. I think that he plays hard and plays tough defense. The biggest issue with him is that he’s just a slow decision maker who has to get set when he gets the ball and isn’t a quick passer, and on the defensive side this is sort of mirrored that he isn’t great at anticipating and playing help side defense, although he’s really good when he’s just guarding someone with the ball. That’s why there seems to be this paradox about his value.

Or as I see it, Derrick White is one of the smartest players I’ve ever seen in terms of anticipation and court awareness. He makes decisions extremely quickly and is always in the right position. Brown on the other hand is kind of the opposite. For a Guard/small forward whose entire game is predicated on movement, he is more like a power forward in terms of how he reacts and plays offense. And this is why the plus minus and on off court stuff shows up the way it does because otherwise there’s no way to prove what you think you’re seeing. But ultimately, the scoreboard determines a player’s value.

But yes, even if this is true, we see players with questionable metrics, but strong name, reputation traded for better assets quite often. So I agree that moving him was the right move, but also agree that the Celtics did not get a good return given that Brown is probably at an all-time high in terms of his value and perception. I have no doubt that they got the best offer they could, but timing also plays into this.

I’m guessing the Knicks tried that with FTs.

Queta is a pretty good FT shooter.

If Robinson were a 70% FT shooter he’d be near max contract range though…no way the Cs could afford him.

He also has serious health issues in addition to his FT issues.

That '31 Sixers pick could be a gold mine. Embiid will be done well before then, Maxxey is just meh and Brown will start having a knee that barks at him.

On the surface this is a horrific trade but I have to think Brad and the gang know more than we do. He has earned that credit, correct?

Incorrect..

This was inevitable.

New NBA cap rules make is almost impossible for Brad to build a champion around two supermax deals with pot'l JT and JB taking up 70% of the cap.

JB was eligible for an extension 7/26. No way was Brad gonna pay him $142m/2y.

As for the return on the trade, it is what it is. The entire league knew Brad wanted to dump JB and he got what he could get. I'm certain he didn't want to trade him to Philly but it was the best he could do for a return. His track record on deals is too good to be asleep at the wheel on this one.

Not sure Brad can flip George this year. If not, if he can give them 25 minutes/60 games at 17/6/4 at $54m then whatever. The 2027 player option/expiring contract at $56m makes this (hopefully) a 1 year deal.

I don't think Brad is done with the summer horse trading. Derrick White?

The Brad will just **** up that trade too.

And he's NEVER been able to draft worth a ****.

...Too early to say anyone ****ed up. All reasons for trades are not always known immediately. There's a little more yo it than just the initial swap.
Maybe you should be more like JB and not give a knee-jerk reaction to a trade that might take several years to measure it.

If this trade needs to take several years to measure, then it was a Horrible trade.

Then why trade him NOW?!?

It's a bad trade. it's okay to say it lol. They got a pittance of a return for an MVP-caliber player. That isn't knee-jerk, it is what it is. Even they wanted a lot more but Philly talked them down. They clearly walked themselves into an unfavorable position after the Giannis push. Knee-jerk is calling it the worst trade in Boston history. Fact of the matter is, regardless of where teams end up, they should have gotten more. I don't even doubt that JB "had to leave" - the failure is in the return.
On th surface, I agree what they got fir JB was not enough.
All Im saying is, its too soon to say Stevens/C's ****ed up.
You dont know all the details. None of us do.
Stevens has been one of the best.
You dont think he's earned the benefit of the doubt?
I will wait and see how it all shakes out and when Stevens speaks more on the subject. He probably has good reasons not to expand on the topic right now. We don't know all of the ins and outs.
But yeah, its knee-jerk imho.

The Brad will just **** up that trade too.

And he's NEVER been able to draft worth a ****.
I'm waiting for Brad to tell us that this was Plan A all along to dupe Miami into taking Giannis when the plan was to trade Brown for Paul George all along.

The quoted part is not that simple and incomplete sentence. There’s more to it. Brown was due for extension. Brad and/or owners didn’t want to pay it. Likely Brad though. Brown would have pouted and maybe ask for a trade. At which point his value may have cratered even more. So that played into it I believe. But they could have extended him and then traded him when eligible but maybe they just wanted to be done with him before next season so he had to go now. Maybe other teams knew he was due for a pay bump and didn’t want to pay him either.

I think the window to get the most value in a return for JB passed a long time ago. Not because of his quality as a player, but because eeeeeeeeeevery year, his name gets floated as a trade target. I think the longer that goes on, the lower the trade value goes. Constantly floating him really diminished his value.
