Bedard: Team thinks Maye has made a huge leap forward this offseason.

He should take another leap just based off the improvement in ol and wr once the brown trade is completed. If hes actually improved his game in itself then look out

I think it was apparent in the playoffs, that despite how great his season was, he and Josh need to figure out the quick passing game for when the OL goes through stretches where it can’t hold up. If that’s where improvements are made, I’ll be very optimistic on that side of the ball

Tom was so good at that. The ball was out of his hands before the ends could even turn the corner.

Josh needs to get Drake to reverse the order of his reads. Instead of disliking being “Checkdown Charlie” Drake should be striving yo be “Quickdraw Drake Maye” treating the quick short passing game like it’s a long handoff complementing the running game. Use that to set up the deep kill shots.

Last year it seemed screens and the short passing game were much less effective parts of the Patriots offense than they were during the glory days. If Drake can get the offense clicking on that part of the game things will look much better.

Best part of it, I think he can do it with or without AJ Brown.

It has been said that McDaniels offensive system has been stigmatized as complex and challenging to learn and run. Last year was Drake's and our current corps of receivers & RB's first year into it, so progress is anticipated.
Consider the progress from '24 (15 td's, 10 int's) to '25 (31 td's, 8 int's) there is no reason to not believe he will have an even better year in '26.

if Maye can accept a net neutral play, and cut his int's from 8 to 6, his fumbles from 8 to 4 and his sacks from 47 to 20, I would be thrilled.
simply cut the negative plays in half.
learn to "live for the next play".

Curious what changed between early February and mid May. Only three months. Did Drake really deepen his understanding of the offense that much more during his time off? Did he develop his own skillset somehow?

I don't think so. It is too early. That does not mean it can't happen. I think he learned what he did wrong last season and what blame he deserved in the losses. The corrections are coming still. I don't believe anything Bedard says. He is not strustworthy.

I am not sure if the playoffs were a good example. The oline was so bad that I think even Brady would have had a lot of problems.

But they do need to give Maye a safety valve where he can quickly dump off the ball ala James White or Kevin Faulk etc. They need to speed up Maye's processing speed at times (I assume this is where they see some advancement). I also think they need to design more roll out plays for Maye. Let him buy more time with his legs in a designed way.

Give him shift players who can get open quicker than his OL find themselves on their behind and then we can talk all this.

if X is to be believed, it looked like Maye and the Mrs were on a very extended vacation.
