Is there a reason we couldn't have waited to trade for Allen? Where was he going? What was the urgency? Wouldn't it have been better to see how the market for Bennet shakes out? Who's to say a good, but not great TE who has bounced from team to team because of an attitude gets what he is looking for on the open market? Gronk probably goes down with an injury again next year. Wouldn't it be nice to still have an above average TE on the roster? One who will play through injuries?

What is there to wait for ?

There were talks with Bennett during the tamper period and he obviously consistently priced himself out of the range the Pats were comfortable paying for his role. Now we got a younger player who is a better blocker, a better statistical red zone target and costs 50% less money while being initially maybe only 80% of Bennett.

That right there is the BB process as clean as you will ever see it.

Sometimes I think that some people here assume that you have to wait for FA to start to actually have an idea of the market which is the most insane notion ever.
