Report: Rob Ninkovich undergoing MRI to determine severity of triceps injury

I think I'll just lie down for a bit...

MRI is never a good thing. I'm not trying to panic, but it doesn't sound good. This day I'm f*cking pissed. This guy is too important.

That blows. Hes incredibly important to the defense.

If its torn the only good news is that it's early enough in the season so he could have it reattached and have an outside chance of being back later this year (seems like a 4-6 month recovery time).

If he applies deer antler spray to it he'll be back in 2 days

Moving to a front 3 or next man up Chris Long/Trey Flowers?

I thought Nink had lost a little last year .. still this puts us in an intriguing position

I don't know that this team has the personnel to consistently run the 3-4. It would be next man up.

Torn triceps is my guess, out for 3 months

I didn't seem like it to me but that doesn't mean he didn't lose a 1/2 a step. He was still very good.

His loss would hurt but if there was a position that could withstand a loss on this team, its DE.

While no one outside of Sheard can be counted on to replace his productivity between Long, Flowers, Shea, Grissom, Rufus and whomever else they have over there one of those guys should be able to do a decent job.

Ugh.. the dreaded upper arm muscle tear..
Ted Johnson. Nate Solder.

Didn't Tim Goad suffer one also? The same year that Garin Veris blew out his knee??

If it is indeed a torn triceps as we all fear, then the younger edge players in the front seven will have to step in and pick up the slack. With this in mind, I will be watching this group closely this preseason... starting Thursday night.

this dude is a coach on the field, he's worth a roster spot or the designation to return if he needs a couple months to recover.

Not sure. Veris was always freaking injured. I do remember that Veris blew out his knee in the 1989 preseason along with Ronnie Lippett and Andre Tippett. All 3 went on IR. I was at that last goddamn preseason game too vs the Giants.

I didn't see a drop off at all. To me he was still very good at containment which is what you want at that position. If you are saying he lost a step because his numbers dropped a bit, that's true but he was also splitting time with Sheard.

It'd be hard to reply in a certain context because I don't know exactly in what aspect you mean this, but generally speaking you must realize that they were using him in different roles a lot early last season, namely dropping back in coverage. So if you're looking at sack totals, this would explain in part the drop in total sacks from 2014. Also, you must consider that he was not in the field as much last season as previous ones because we had more depth at the position and Sheard played so well.

Ultimately, maybe he has last a step. But his true value was never really physical prowess. You need a guy like him because he's smart and can play so many different roles...and he's DURABLE. This is what hurts me so. I don't believe he's missed a game since arriving here. He's well over 100 in consecutive games played. But MRI usually means they at least fear it could be significant enough and he will almost certainly miss time. We'll see and I can't remember a time when I sincerely hoped to be so wrong about something. He's absolutely one of the most vital cogs and we'd be missing a lot if he's out for significant time, though I do believe we have better depth this year than years past.

This really sucks because dude has been an iron man for this team and the league. He hasn't missed a regular-season game since 2009. Although there's a slight possibility he could play through it, depending on the severity, as written here.

Triceps tears like one suffered by Ray Lewis have a long recovery period

Immediately after surgical repair, the arm is immobilized in a splint or brace for about two weeks. After this, physical therapy is initiated to help slowly regain elbow motion. Initially only gentle exercises are allowed so that tendon healing is not disrupted. Around four to six weeks after surgery, active motion exercises, done without assistance of a physical therapist, are started. Once full range of motion is restored, strengthening exercises can begin, usually at four to six months after surgery. Most patients can expect to recover close to their full range of motion and strength at a year after surgical repair.

At least the team is getting the injuries out of the way earlier in the season this time around.

Let's wait and see what the injury is before casting doubt on his season. Let's wait because I'm afraid he tore his triceps and now I'm depressed, thanks guys.

Sucks, seems to be true.
