"Although this is usually a season-ending injury when it occurs in isolation, acute surgical repair generally produces good functional results and allows for return to play the following season."

Mayo has not come back anywhere close to his play prior to the injury. This article suggests they can be worse than an ACL.

Seattle would like that trade back. Of course, I am always skeptical when teams trade for a high-priced star in the middle of a contract like that. The team trading away their star player (the Saints in this case) typically know the player's value more than anyone else. I don't think the Saints make that trade if Graham is/was as good as his reputation. I know they needed to dump salary due to the cap, but Graham certainly wasn't as untouchable as you'd think.

The surgery is the easy part. The rehab is the hard part. Patella tendon repair is not an arthroscopic procedure, rather it is a simple open repair where the tendon is sewn together and often augmented with suture through drill holes in the bone. The kneecap tendon is well over an inch wide and is larger, broader and stronger than the ACL. The open incision and early immobilization required leads to more scar tissue, loss of motion and atrophy. In ACL surgery, an arthroscopic is used and patients are encouraged to move and bear full weight immediately after surgery thus speeding recovery.

The grueling rehab takes a minimum of 6-9 months; however, the struggle to regain explosiveness and full power goes well beyond that.

Thank you for leading me to this. That really sucks for Jimmy Graham. I always laughed at the people who attempted to put him in Gronk's stratosphere, but he was damn good in his own right. I do wonder how much of that was Brees and that offense, though. I say that because Jimmy was largely a non-factor in Seattle and I just don't see that offense being any near as complex as Sean Payton's creative offense. Wilson is not that terrible to where he couldn't get Jimmy the ball. And the O-Line, though largely inconsistent in pass blocking, is not nearly that bad. Why wasn't he more successful in Seattle, I wonder.

Wilson doesn't get the ball out on time like Breeze. Not a good fit in Seatle's scheme. Wilson is very good, but at this point he just doesn't operate in a real precise manor like Breeze. (sp)

I remember I was in Las Vegas playing craps when news of the Graham to Seattle trade broke. It was my roll and I just remember sighing and being like "wtf is Seattle thinking?" Anyway, I hit the point on that roll and everyone got paid. HOLLA!

You know, with his injury he will probably take a long time to get back to form, if ever. Imagine if the Pats took a flier on him if he were released. If he gets to 80% of what he was, he would be the replacement to Hernandez that the team has been looking for. The Pats would be able to use him to the same degree that he was used in N.O. That would be a hard offense to stop barring injury. A fan can dream

My nephew, who was a NOLA fan first and a Pats Fan 2nd, changed his rankings after Graham went to Seattle.. it is with great joy that I send him Pats Fans Gear for Christmas...

NOLA fans are really pissed about this trade.. meanwhile Seattle is on the hook for 10 million and 9 million salary cap hits for the next two years..

we tried the same thing with Jake ballard, didn't work too well. Obviously Graham is a much better player but someone is going to give him a multi year deal, Jax would lose nothing by taking a cap hit if it means they could potentially get him back as full Jimmy Graham in year 2
