Patriots Workout Two Veteran Tight Ends

Scott Chandler has been a disappointment so far on offense...but the above don't look like good replacements.

edit.... oops, already an article and thread on this.... merge city.

I am thinking that if anything Maneri would be the more likely roster candidate; he's familiar with New England's system, plus if need be he can fill in at tackle, where the Patriots are mighty thin with zero depth at the position currently.

Patriots Work Out Two Veteran Tight Ends: Steve Maneri and Bear Pascoe

Maneri has played tight end and offensive line in the NFL after going undrafted out of Temple in 2010. He spent part of the 2010 season on the Patriots’ practice squad and active roster. He also was with the Patriots in training camp in 2014, then signed to their active roster in December. He was waived Jan. 17.

Maneri spent part of training camp this summer with the New York Jets. The 6-foot-7, 280-pounder has six career receptions for 52 yards. He also has spent time with the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Pascoe was selected in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He was with the New York Giants when they beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, and he also has spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and Chicago Bears. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound tight end has 40 career catches for 336 yards and two touchdowns.

Both players are known for their blocking prowess.

It sounds like they are doing their homework in case Mike Williams gets hurt.

Put both on speed dial... being prepared is a hallmark.

No he hasn't.

He is and was always the 5th or 6th option in this offense.

He is Gronk insurance. Nothing more.

No, I don't think working out these TE's have anything to do with Chandler. But rather with the OL injury situations. The Pats are looking at blocking TE options to replace Williams if they have to move him back to OT if Cannon is going to be out for much longer, and/or Flemming isn't working out.

Sure, he is a disappointment if you expected him to put up Buffallo type numbers. But why would anyone (who understands football) expect him to do that when he is number 2 TE here and probably the at best 4th to 5th receiving option?

He has been exactly what we have expected. A solid blocker and great mismatch on Safeties, and decoy when out with Gronk. Also, he is only making 1.2 mil and has a reasonable cap hit of 2.5 especially since he could be a feature TE on some teams.

Peoople have to stop looking at just stats and if they do, have some perspective.

Scott Chandler hasn't be a disappointment. There are only so many balls to go around.
