Official Pats v. Seahawks postgame thread

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame Twenty-three points against the best defense in the league should be enough, as long as you don't keep giving up chunks of yards on jump balls. I agree that they need to get better at closing the deal, but they wouldn't be in that spot if...

Say what you will about Carroll, but maybe BB & NC should take a page from him for their DB prototypes. Big and physical with long arms seems to work better than small and quick in 2012 (other than Revis).

You're right, but twenty-three points against the best D in the league isn't horrible.

Official Pats v. Seahawks postgame thread

The O could have done a bit more, the secondary could have done a LOT better. Really, this loss is on them, no question. I like Russell Wilson and think he'll be a Top 7 QB in four years, but today he was just gambling and winning over and over again. That's what's so frustrating about this...

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

I'm not sure what your point is about the O-line is, I never mentioned anything about them. The downside of it just that, an extra 30 yards vs. the punt. That can be significant, especially if you pin the opposition against the goalline. People that like the 4th and 5 call assume the Broncos...

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

You just don't get the point of the conversation I guess... Pretend we're not talking about the Pats vs the Broncos, but Football Team A (offense) vs Football Team B (defense). Then rejoin the conversation and give your opinion. If you don't like doing that, then don't join this thread...

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

No question the payoff of converting is great, but the downside of not converting, even by an inch, makes it a bad call IMHO. And the Pats don't have an aging, flu-ridden D like 2006, and they're definitely better than the 4th and 2 D. Not to mention the resurgence of the run game. Luckily, the...

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

Ok.It wasn't as bad as I thought, clock management wise. Although, if you looked at the playclock, which doesn't show on the drive chart, I think they could have shaved more time, but I'm probably nitpicking at that point.

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

Or how about this. If you're too much of a thin-skinned simpleton to enjoy a great win but still have a debate about a controversial decision, then stay the **** out of a thread that has one.

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but your statistical model just uses numbers to say "do what gives you the best chance of winning". No. ****.
  12. H

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

You're right, my memory was off and I misread the drive charts. Still, with eight minutes, I still think punting is the right call. You double the field Manning has to drive, and that 1.5 minute drive turns into a 3 minute one, giving you the ball back with about 5 minutes and a 10 point lead...

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

The pace. They weren't letting 40 seconds burn off between each play.

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

It's not just math, it's game theory. Often times, the best decision is the one that is likely to allow the lowest amount of negative results and the lowest amount of positive results. I'm not saying you should play Martyball, but when you have a 17 point lead with five minutes left, you *******...

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

You have to look at the risks and rewards of each situation on its own. In this particular case, the Patriots had a 17 point lead with about five minutes left. Obviously, converting the 4th and 5 is the best of all scenarios, but you can say that about any fourth down situation. I agreed with...

Going for it on 4th down was CORRECT...here's why...

When it's late in the game and you've got a lead that can be overcome, time is important. When time's important, field position is EXTREMELY important. The strategy on that entire drive was maddening. They should have been killing the clock and willing to punt. I love aggressive playcalling as...

Hey Josh McDaniels, can we please end the Danny Woodhead experiment?

As one of the board's Woodhead defenders, I appreciate your efforts. Can everyone just shut the **** up now about this guy? Two huge third down conversions mean something...

Game Day Thread The Official Patriots vs Broncos game thread

Re: The Official Week 5 Broncos at Pats Post-Game Thread The D did a great job forcing turnovers; and overall, making stops considering the competition. Awesome job by the run game. Welker is so underrated. How many times did he keep the chains moving? Woodhead might deserve a game...

lol Bob Ryan - doesn't know how NFL makes its schedule

Not to mention that the league's structure promotes parity to the point that a "strength of schedule" analysis based on the prior year's W-L record is largely irrelevant by the time the games happen. But yeah, I though Bob Ryan retired already. Did I miss something?
