Look at Trent Brown. Lowe loses on the play, but Brown is guiding the DE past the QB's spot when he sees Mac is there and then tries to get a hand on the defender. Just look at where he sets and how he only widens the rusher's path. No way he expected Mac to be that deep.

If you were Kraft and this season doesn’t improve, do you move on from Bill after this season?

It doesn't because none of them have deep coverage as their best attribute.

If you were Kraft and this season doesn’t improve, do you move on from Bill after this season?

It all depends on how they use him. Sign/draft a coverage safety and play Dugger closer to the line of scrimmage? I'm down for giving him money, he's a playmaker at that spot. If he's going to play as much deep safety as he has this year I'm only bringing him back if the money is right, he's not...

Yeah, but now you're changing the argument. As I've said, if you're making a pro-Mac argument using film that's fine (even though the film from these past two weeks is as awful as any QB's across the league), but nothing in the stats supports that. The stats are bottom of the league and you can...

If you were Kraft and this season doesn’t improve, do you move on from Bill after this season?

I've said here before that I'd give Bill 2024 to restart with the amount of FAs and cap space they'll have, but that was under the assumption that they'd win 7-9 games this year and Mac Jones would keep looking like an okay starter. If they're in the hunt for a QB high in the draft, I don't see...

You keep talking about the stats, you know they're going to be bottom 3 in every category this week, right? You can argue Mac isn't the main issue by what you're watching and the film, that's fine, but his stats are right in the "worst QB in football" range.

Mac Not Happy With the Groceries

I mean, that's the way Tom Brady Sr. was described by Curran for years, so it very well coule have some validity.

Patriots Pregame Thread Week 5 pregame discussion: Saints @ Pats

The Patriots have the worst win percentage in the league as underdogs since 2021 and also the worst percentage of games covering the spread as underdogs in that time frame. If they're not favored, they basically can't win. Can't overcome any talent deficit whatsoever. Let's see if they can...

Patriots Pregame Thread Week 5 pregame discussion: Saints @ Pats

This current group of pass catchers is far better than the 2019 group that finished the season throwing passes to Elandon Roberts and starting 50 year old Ben Watson at TE. Gesicki is their number 5 option right now, he'd get 100 targets on that team, they had nothing aside from an Edelman that...

NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Week 5 Other Games

Lol. Sure, having the 3rd best defense in the league by EPA/Play since the day you stepped on the field and getting Bill Belichick as your HC makes no difference. Jones has won 17 games in the NFL, 9 of those came when the Patriots allowed 10 points or fewer. The Bears have allowed 10 points or...

    Commit to running the ball

Sure, maybe you could give him the ball or even Thornton on some of those PA shots, I just don't think at this point Douglas is consistent enough as a route runner that I'd be comfortable penciling him in as a target on those designs. If you're running hard PA and taking a shot, there's...

    Mac and the "It Factor"

At least that was an under center attempt, but I don't understand how you don't go hard play action there. They never throw from under center and everyone exepcted run in that spot. Just scheme someone open if you are set on throwing the ball. I mean, to be fair, Parker was wide open over the...

    Mac and the "It Factor"

"Tough teams cover kicks". Just all the right priorities with this team. Yeah, kick coverage, that's why they aren't winning. Stop the run, tackle on special teams, don't turn the ball over. Might as well bring Y. A Tittle in at quarterback.

    Mac and the "It Factor"

Douglas was supposed to do exactly what he did, run across the middle of the field and cross with Parker. He just didn't get the correct depth and bumped into him. He executed the route poorly, but he ran the correct route the concept called for. Now, the concept kinda sucks because they're...

    Mac and the "It Factor"

It measures the distance between the receiver and the closest defender only when he's targeted and at the point he receives the ball. It hinges so much on play calling and QB decision making/accuracy that in the way it's calculated I just don't know how you could say it's solely a receiver stat...
  16. RodThePat

    Mac and the "It Factor"

Separation stats suck, honestly. They tell you very little. The Patriots receivers have trouble separating against man, but not because of Next Gen Stats telling us they've averaged 1.6 yards of separation or whatever. NGS counts separation at the time the receiver gets targeted, so if the QB is...
  17. RodThePat

    Commit to running the ball

It's hard enough to run the ball with a bad run blocking OL and zero good run blocking TEs (Brown is only made to look reasonable as a blocker in contrast to the absolute zeros that are Henry and Gesicki in this regard), but when you add to the equation just how much teams are comfortable...

    Mac and the "It Factor"

That's just mesh. They ran it with more depth than mesh usually calls for which doesn't put the linebackers and safeties into as much conflict as it does when you run is shallow, but every single team in the league runs mesh and every time receivers run into each other in this design it's a...
