PATRIOTS NEWS Reiss: Vrabel will not be present day 3 of draft

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
So was this done as a result of him getting wind that the old photos were about to come out, or was he already planning to skip day 3? I think i see his goal and obviously the photo release wouldve still complicated things, but i still dont get how nobody thought this move wouldn’t only make matters worse for him . Making it football related now has the major shows like first take and rich eisen doing segments on this.

I did not read the last 12 pages of the thread. Did anyone figure out why Russini's oldest son is named Mike?

Shabbat waits for no man.
Shomer ****ING Shabbos!

This gets him out of having to get in front of the press for anything until training camp. It's hard not to see it as the reason (or a significant reason) for the decision.

Thats what i figured one of the goals was, and another was maybe to send a message that hes serious about getting help / prioritizing family (which that point didn’t make sense to me since theres no need to prioritize anything when you can easily do both without one interfering with the other). Just imo i don’t feel like it outweighs the negative here, i mean he spoke to them yesterday anyway. It seems to add to the circus if anything. I felt like his statement a couple days back was good and if he left it at that any further questions on the matter he could have just responded with ‘ive already addressed this’ while working on fixing things privately.

My understanding from listening to the Pats Chat podcast is that if no more photos had come out after the first statement, that probably would have been it. But once the older photos came out after that statement, the local media's questions to Vrabel were going to overshadow everything related to the draft, which isn't fair to the rookies or the organization. That's why we're going to solely be hearing from Wolf for this weekend.

Makes sense, keep the focus on the players.

I guess either way this distraction on Mike wasn’t going to go away anytime soon with the new photos coming out. But it will eventually, unless other **** keeps popping up

And from my media intake last night and this morning, this plan appears to have worked.

Of course the NFL wanted last night to be all about the player's mommas crying and daddies beaming.

Other media channels had so much else to deal with that there wasn't much about the Vrabel situation.

Not saying this concluded the coverage, but Mike disappears on Day 3, and the story IMO will go cold unless another bombshell drops.

Given they had to go back 6 years to find the photos, it seems that very well could be the last bombshell, unless Russini decides to talk.

I’m betting Strunk’s PI is already stalking Russini’s kid, trying to get a shed hair or fingernail clipping for DNA analysis…

The people here saying he should be fired for doing adult things on his own time and dime, need to RELAX. Maybe go complain about the multiple woman beaters, child abusers, and generally BAD people that exist on EVERY team (and don’t get punished by the NYFL..) Maybe go read a book…go outside…stop focusing on what others do in their own adult lives. Is what he did a distraction to the team? Not really…it’s the offseason. I’m willing to bet a good sum of money that a lot of players looked at him, and saw her..and said “Damn coach Mike STILL pulls that *** at 50!!”. Only ones making a stink are the media and those with nothing better to do but complain about what others do in their adult lives that THEY JUST DON’T APPROVE OF. Like I said…RELAX!

I said positive things about Mike's crisis management squad, but here's SI's take:

College professors could literally teach a PR class on the Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel scandal. The focus of the class would be how these two handled everything in the most counterproductive way possible.

When you’re guilty, apologize as soon as possible and then lay low and make the story go away.

I can’t stop thinking about The Athletic’s initial statement standing by Russini (while saying they are investigating Russini) and Russini’s completely absurd resignation letter.

Now, look where we are two weeks later.

Meanwhile, Vrabel is off to counseling after giving ridiculous press conferences and Russini FINALLY deleted her formerly-known-as-Twitter account Thursday night, which is like buying a smoke detector after your house has already burned down.

I was "today years old" when I learned that the name "Mike" is derived from "Michael"

If that's not compelling proof I don't know what is.

"While the post seems like an innocent question related to the name of her child, it has raised eyebrows considering Mike Vrabel’s legal name is Michael George Vrabel."

Seriously, they/we all need to leave Mike and his family TF alone.

Aside from TreVeyon Henderson, no player on the Patriots gives a sh!t about their coach's personal life.

That was my critique of how Russini and Vrabel handled this. First thing they should have acknowledged the affair and said they were wrong. Because they denied it and called it laughable, it's much worse for them now publicly. And Vrabel's speech didn't help him either.

Handled poorly is a reasonable conclusion. Still recoverable IMO also a reasonable conclusion.

Most players probably don't care. Those that do care really only have two choices, either stay and put up with it, or leave. If they stay but find they can't put up with it, chances are the team will initiate a parting of the ways. Given they have signed contracts yet prospects are limited, parting can result in the player finding themselves in reduced circumstances. Chances are that it is in their best interest to accept the situation.

And, strangely enough, those choices are pretty similar for the wife, except she gets better financial compensation than a player would get in the case there is a parting of the ways.

I don't think players would want to leave over this. Even though this situation is bad and a certain percentage of players may feel like me and are disappointed at how he handled this when it came out. I can imagine some players are disappointed. However, Vrabel seems like a likeable guy and coach. I'm not on the inside though. But I too think he can repair things in the locker room for those that feel like I do. But, yeah, many of them won't care one way or the other as you said

Agreed. Time to go back to Epstein, or Iran, or perhaps remembering the Ukrainians. I’ll post a helpful link at the end of this post.

Drake Maye does. I read that in a post on PatsFans.com.
