Russini & Vrabel Nothing to see here?

A fool is born every minute. Vrabel and Diana thank you for your subordinates.
Thank you for your subordinates? LOL. I don't think you have any intellectual insights that I need to consider. Too funny.

Your earlier assertion was that The Athletic and NYT are the "same difference". They are not. Since you changed the topic, I assume you now agree that the two entities are different.

I have no idea if there was a review or not. The initial response of support from the Athletic's director seemed honest, possibly hasty, and who knows what possible conflicts of interest he had. Recognizing that, the NYT is known as a far left rag, and regularly boots people out that do not fit their messaging. I am sure Russini does not fit their messaging.

No, the Times is not objectively known as a "far-left rag." It's opinion section might be considered slightly left-leaning centrist but the paper's 175-year track record is mainstream establishment-oriented narratives.

In other words it's highly doubtful that Russini's departure was agenda driven beyond questions of journalistic integrity.

Ok, here's the source of the pictures, tell us their value as evidence.

Literally the same value as any photos. Are they authentic? Yes, there’s no dispute. Who cares who actually took them.

What do they prove? That’s a different question. But given that you can’t record people in private places, this is pretty close to “proof.” Really the only thing that would top it is actually kissing in public.

Sounds like some of you want her to go around with a Scarlet Letter.

She could have just resigned because she got tired of being in the public eye with clowns that jump to conclusions like we're finding here.
She’s suspended, under investigation, with a contract that expires in just over two months. So she can’t work and has no real upside just lots of downside.

What’s the benefit to her of hanging on? What’s the cost?

What’s the benefit to her of resigning now? What does it cost her?

By resigning now she can honestly say she was not fired. She can begin to work on putting this behind her on her terms not terms controlled by the NYT. At most it might cost her a couple of months of pay, but it’s not guaranteed she wouldn’t be fired tomorrow anyway. So by resigning she takes control of her situation, and has certainty instead of risk about her next two months.

Who is “we”? Sounds like her colleagues always had a low opinion of her. And sounds like there are lots of skeletons in that closet. Yeah she’s done.

Or they have been jealous of her.

Good question, who is “we”? Other than someone I’ve never heard of that posted something on the internet?

Slightly left-leaning centrist? Tunes, are you drunk on a Tuesday? Slightly left-leaning? LOL.

Here is the All Sides rating of -3.03 - anything over -3.0 is far left.

This is a fair point. They also suspended her, so she was stuck being unable to actually do her job or do anything but sit and be ridiculed indefinitely. So instead she walks away from a couple months of salary in order to be free to write independently or pick up a contract with another outlet.

Thank you. Sometimes this site depresses me. I always like to think the best of any group I choose to be a part of. And sometimes, I am let down.

I think it would be interesting to go on the “if I was a man” defense - as in, if I was a male reporter chilling in the pool two feet apart, or having a quick not-very-romantic bro hug with a coach, would anyone have cared? It would just be dudes hanging out. But because I’m a woman it’s automatic adultery, the end, career over.

I think this is why most other NFL outlets don’t really want to touch the story - because most of the top folks who would report on it have likely fraternized just as much on golf courses, resorts, casinos, strip clubs, you name it.

fwiw Crissy Froyd covers the NCAA and NFL for USA Today.

Yep. Even with her contact up 6/30 an NFL reporter on a national level doesn't resign before the freaking draft.
How about if her employer tells her she’s suspended pending investigation, and they told the NFL to not issue her credentials?

How about if your employee tells you you're going to be fired but we will gracefully allow for you to resign.

Which is almost certainly what happened

I was going to ask the same of you (for future reference I'm not a drinker).

Yeah, we can play the dueling links game but you're (conveniently) conflating the editorial opinion section with news reporting. All Sides makes that distinction. (And -3.03 appears directly on the line between left and left-leaning, not "far left.")

But for the sake of argument, I can't imagine an allegedly liberal editorial/opinion section focus somehow entering the Russini flap as you suggest. She reports on sports vs. politics or social issues. If anything, one might consider that working to her favor as female star in a male-dominated sphere.

-3.00 is the line. -3.03 is over the line and considered far left. Either way, the NYT is no where near slightly left of center as you wrote. It is not the same as when we were raised. The NYT is far left these days.

The far left are the authors of cancel culture. Remember the disinformation committees? Those committees would cancel Russini in less than a nano-second.

As a fun exercise, the next time you read a NYT article, click on the author's name and look at their profile. Compare that to Russini's profile and consider if there is any resemblance of personality between the two.

Oh come on, man. Please. Russini's situation has absolutely nothing to do with any of this. She (apparently) committed the professional cardinal sin of becoming personally involved with a source. That brings her fairness and objectivity into question, a sure credibility killer for any reporter and by extension the employer's outlet. There are no agenda-driven conspiratorial shades of gray afoot here, just journalism 101. She crossed the proverbial red line and has only herself to blame for the consequences. I am amazed by her stupidity/hubris. And Vrabel should've been smart enough not to enable it.
