Draft Rumours 2026

I guess Brown is just a matter of time until it happens, it’s a shame cause Bell is one of my favorite players in this draft. Oh well can’t get them all.

I would be even more pissed if they draft Chris Bell to replace AJ Brown
Always a risk.
If AJ comes here and plays to the level he has in the past we will all forget about ever doubting him.
He was my fav WR the year he got drafted, and is really good when he's at his best.
Conversely, if he goes somewhere else and balls out and we draft Bell or Hurst or Stribling....or whoever and they don't work out, we will continue to talk about the Pats WR drafting woes and rue that we didn't trade for AJ.

There are no certainties.

I loved AJ Brown in 2019, love his style of play. He clearly has a relationship with alike Vrabel.

That said, he is 29, a malcontent, has knee issues, has had dwindling production, and will cost a lot in both draft picks and salary. You may well he over-paying for a player on the downside.

But, he could also be rejuvenated under Vrabel, and Bell/Hurst/Stribling could all flame out.

There are no certainties.

He was also very blase at his pro day, IIRC.

"Effort and finish."

Red flag for me.
Fair but wasn't that the main concern with Carlos Dunlap when he fell into the 2nd rd and Bill past him up for his teammate Jermaine Cunningham because Cunningham had a high motor and high effort?

Not comparing Lawrence to Dunlap in terms of skill or play style. Just the same effort concerns.

I would rather take the chance on the guy with the talent who just needs to mature as opposed to the guy who just lacks the skill.

AJ Brown has knee issues. That is a certainty.
Yes, due diligence is definitely in order.
That said Moss was plagued with leg issues in Oakland and everyone said he was done, his legs were gone and he couldn't run.
Then he comes here and sets the record for TDs in a season.
AJ seems genuinely unhappy in Philly, warranted or not.
Motivation can vastly effect a players production, both good and bad.
I am still on the fence. If he can be his old self and we can land him for no more than a 2027 2nd then I'm interested.
If it's more costly than that, then I would prefer we don't make the trade.
That said I can't imagine we will be picking in the the top half of the draft in 2027. We have a lot of draft misses in later in the first rd. Losing a 1st seems like a lot and it certainly is if a player we would've targeted goes on to be a great pro, but it's just as likely the player picked goes on to be nothing better than an average player.
I also don't think it's outrageous to pick a WR even with an AJ trade if the value is there.
Pop is probably gone after this year if not before.
Boutte may not be here next year, and could even be a trade candidate if AJ comes here.
AJ is not getting younger.
So WR would definitely be a need at the latest next off-season even with an AJ trade. You don't draft for one year (Iheanachor/Miller/Lomu would be a prime example of this). So a WR like Bell or Hurst or Stribling...or whoever could still be very much in play if the value presents itself in the draft.

My updated realistic preferences for the Patriots at 31:

1. Max Iheanachor
2. Blake Miller
3. Akheem Mesidor
4. Caleb Banks*
5. Caleb Lomu
6. Kayden McDonald
7. Keldric Faulk
8. Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
9. Keylan Rutledge
10. TJ Parker

Banks would depend on medical evaluation.
