After reading the entirety of the Vrabel thread and having a few early Friday drinks, I'm convinced that he's being brought in to replace that dirty scoundrel Vrabel.

Vrabel was an NFL DC for one year of his career and they were last in points allowed (HOU in 2017). Obviously we've all seen Vrabel can coach defense. So a lot goes into a team's performance and it's not crazy that a coach of a bad unit can still have a lot to add.

Agreed. Not all coaches are good coordinators and not all coordinators are good HC’s (see Mcdaniels, Joshua). Doesn’t mean they don’t have value to a team in a different role. Peter principle

The idea that people are still picking the Bills to win the division is wild. The difference in the coaching staffs are miles apart. The Patriots have the FAR superior staff...it's a laugher.

It was a game in early October that year that JJ Watt and Whitney Mercilus went down for the season. I can't remember if it was consecutive plays or consecutive drives, but it happened pretty close together.

I suppose that's a decent excuse for a defense to struggle.

Bowen was Vrabel's DC in Tennessee. In 2021 (his first year as DC), the Titans' defense was a top defense in the league. They were 5th in points allowed. Although the defense was fairly average his next two years under him and Vrabel. But a lot of that had to do with the lack of talent.

Fact is, Bowen and Vrabel have a long history together going back to when Vrabel was a position coach and Bowens was a graduate assistant at Ohio State. He is a Vrabel guy who coached on successful defenses under Vrabel in Ohio State, Houston, and Tennessee. I think it is a good addition.

BTW, I always assumed Bowen would be hired by the Patriots once he was let go by the Giants.

You don't think that 36 year old Joe Brady, in his first stint as head coach, who has little in the way of NFL connections, and only got the job because he was most likely to say "yes" to everything Josh Allen wants, and who was already their offensive coordinator for the past few years so won't be changing anything on offense, is going to suddenly lead the team to the promised land?!???!?

People will always pick the Bills while they have Josh Allen. At least until the Patriots show that last year wasn't a fluke.

It is the same how everyone picks the Chiefs or the Ravens to win their respective divisions.

The talent on that 2021 D was pretty darn good. Young Landry, prime Byard, Simmons. Honestly that was a decent team overall, on offense they had Henry, Brown, and an old Julio Jones.

I was hoping Bowen was going to follow Vrabel last season to the Patriots and be the DC. I am more then 100% ok with how the defense played without him. I think he can still help the team.

If winning a division were best measured by the quality of the coaching staff, the patriots would be easy winners.

I like the hire
very similar back ground to Vrabel. OSU. Texans. Titans.
has worked with Vrabel before.

we have no idea what T Williams role will be. Bowen could be in a similar spot to Kuhr prior to Williams illness. depth. bench strength always a good thing for the staff, not only the players.

I was talking about subsequent years when the production went down. 2021 the talent was good.
