2026 Draft: EDGE

One day 2 EDGE option I think is being overlooked is Jake Golday.

He improved his 3C to 6.84 at his pro day, which would top all LB and EDGE prospects in this draft. His 1.59 10-split is comparable to Howell, Jacas, and Arvell Reese.

Golday was a DE before switching to LB. For me, he solves two spots:

1. An off-ball LB with range and coverage ability

2. A pass rusher.

Golday can bring what Cashius Howell and R Mason Thomas would, while providing a huge LB upgrade as well. Guys like Romello Height and Jaishawn Barham and are smaller, and offer less as off-ball LBs.

I love this option. Vrabel would know how to use Golday. 6'4" with a 3cone of 6.84. These guys are ridiculous.

I was not kidding. If we drafted the Bell Brothers I think we would be all set at WR for awhile. Of course that means we ignore EDGE or OT or TE, so there is always a trade off. But I like both Bells, very athletic with huge production (Chris before the ACL of course).
Who the **** is going to block for Maye when the inevitable injury occurs to one or more of the OT's? This Tradeoff fella? Is he from Nigeria or something?

Nope. Just a guy who wavers in the wind too much. Luckily I know how to be strong at the right time to keep the ladies happy

Always keep the ladies happy. Sound policy.

Oh, you're in the Cult.

Bob McGinn on the 2026 EDGE class:

Edge rusher is one of the few positions in this draft where supply more than meet demands, most noticeably beyond the first round and stretching well into the middle rounds.

“I would say it’s deep,” one executive in personnel said. “I would not say it’s necessarily like wow top-heavy. But when you get into the second through the fourth round it’s really solid.”

In the last eight drafts an average of 25.89 edge rushers has been drafted, including 4.5 on average in the first round. After interviewing personnel people for the past two months the sense here is that 30-plus will be drafted, and that about 22 could fall in the first four rounds.

Some but not all edge rushers are capable of playing both defensive end in a 4-3 base and outside linebacker in a 3-4 base.

“There’s a lot of very good 4-3 defensive ends,” another scout said. “[b)I don’t know that there’s a lot of playmakers at the top of (the draft).[/b] There’s a lot of mid-second round to the top of the fourth. You can get some really good players that will help your team. I just don’t know that any will be really dynamic.

That's roughly how I see it: very deep class, but not very dynamic. I think Day 2 is the sweet spot, unless someone falls.

Great Rueben Bain comp from Foug Farrar:

Jeff Risdon echoed many of the same concerns.

Let him fall. Iheanachor at 31, trade up for Mesidor. Cognac and Asians level of good.
The bilateral foot injuries and surgeries also have a be a big factor, along with the age.

On one hand it explains why he had a much more successful final season, but on the other the age and feet will affect how long he can play at nfl level. How do teams value a prospect that might only be a one contract player.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Mesidor go top 20, also would surprise me to see him fall to the 3rd.

Negative story season. Feck off all of you.

Sam Monson and Steve Palazzolo on Mesidor.

SM: "He's amazing inside, like really good. To the point where even though he's 259lb, every sub package I would have him lined up as a 3-tech and just let him go to work."

SP: "His quickness is a real challenge for guards"

SM: "He annihilates guards. He's just too fast for them. He's legitimately a nightmare for interior offensive linemen to deal with. He had a pressure rate way over 20% inside which is nuts. That would be the best defensive tackle pressure rate you'd find in the NFL."

I thought I'd seen something similar before and noted it. It was on James Forster's website, which you shared. Forster's write up on Mesidor was one of the most detailed and an interesting read.

"A lot of production came from exploiting more favorable athletic matchups vs IOL. Looks like a great athlete vs guards/centres, but looks average vs most tackles. Criss chop was useless vs tackles and a cheat code vs IOL"

Forster talked about the bull rush and double swipe as well.

You can't make this **** up
