If AJ Brown finally joins, where does that leave us in the draft?

Does drafting a receiver loose it's urgency?

Well, seeing as they probably won't have a first-rounder if that happens, it might.

Then again, the Pats still have 3 receivers who are FAs at season's end.

AJ Brown has nothing to sign.

It’s a trade.

Have to agree with Eagles about compensation, and they’re asking crazy crazy price.

Almost certainly nothing will happen before draft anyway.

The trade would not happen until June, so 2026 picks are unaffected.
This ^, but I’m also wondering if they can have a deal in place for any 2026 picks but the trade won’t execute until after June 1?

They could get clever and trade their 2027 1st rd to pick to NE for NE 2026 1st rd pick only for NE to trade them back their 2027 1st Rd for AJ Brown after June.

If it doesn't happen today, then yes, it would be in June and not affect the 2026 draft.

Not with picks that high. I don't think the NFL will allow that, because then the picks couldn't convey until June which would be impossible.

Plus they probably can't draft players for PHI with those picks. There is a "rookie allocation" within the salary cap based on picks teams make during the draft. If a team trades for a rookie, the cap space for that slot doesn't come with them.

The only reason it worked for Manning/Rivers was their hits were fairly close, being 1 and 4 IIRC.

I think if we find a WR we love in the draft and assume he could take the role of an AJ Brown, we wouldn't trade for him. But it's unlikely that a great WR is going to fall to us... or that we would know a great WR if they fell to us.

Yet another reason why the Eagles really ****ed this up so badly.
Roseman overvalued Brown's actual trade value - which is a little unusual for him, but this could be a pretty big blunder for him going forward (whether he actually overvalued, or just thought everyone else is stupid, both can be true).

AJ Brown should be on another team right now for a 2nd rounder and another pick, screw the cap hit for one year, you're not signing anyone anyway. His trade value plummets every passing day.

I don't think giving up a high draft pick and big salary to Brown and his drama after signing Doubs

It's still a deep draft at WR and I have to think one of the top 3 picks goes in that direction, along with OL and Edge

If you're looking for a teammate that will openly embrace seeing the ball spread to other receivers on the field, that is NOT Brown as we know from experience.

Hate the idea of waiting until June to see if Roseman sees his shadow or not

Frankly I don't see them trading Brown. unless the relationship is truly shot. They already lost one WR in FA and didn't add any and will probably lose Goddard as well. Why would a team that will be competing for a Championship trade away their best WR asset. Who would be left?

Depends how the draft falls. Obvious answer is edge or RT. But what if Caleb banks falls to 31? NT is a big need and caleb seems to have the highest ceiling if the medicals check out. What if thieneman falls? Pats would have the best 1-6 secondary in the league and be built for multiple seasons. Unlikely.
I think i would draft the RT of the future at 31. Protect the franchise qb
I think vrabel is gonna go edge
X wr is in play too but I actually think the way this draft falls Pats can get one rds 2-4

That relationship is truly shot. And he's not the only one.
Sirianni is just cancerous.

AJ Brown is an overpriced, aging WR with a bum knee. What the hell is all the excitement about?

$29m in cash is market price for a true WR1
29 years old is fine. He has a good 2-3 more years left
Played 90% of the snaps and hauled in 1000yards w/ a solid, but system QB.

I know he has some knee issues but hes played. I'm more worried about his hamstrings.

He is overpriced, in the final phase of his career, and he has an arthritic knee. For a team midway in a rebuild, it is far wiser to expend your resources on a player who will not be limping around on Miami Beach when you really need him, on a draftee or on a younger vet. In my opinion, our collective view as to where we are in the rebuild (from straight-up garbage) is skewed by the fact we made it to the SB this year. I would bet, if I were a bettor, that we won't even sniff the SB next year, when we will have a representative schedule rather than the parade of mediocrities - at best for the most part - we faced last season.

At this point in the rebuild, we ought to focus on draft and develop rather than on snatching at short-term baubles for which we really have no legitimate use, as we might if we were the proverbial "player or two away." That is simply not our situation.
