I wouldn't trade him if I was Jax.
Hunter is not WR
Meyers is a possession guy.
Washignton is a nice piece, but BTJ is clearly their best WR.
Obv he had a down year, but he was equally impressive his rookie year and he's cost controlled for 2-3 more years.
If they did trade him, that would ring alarm bells for me.
Good points. No alarms for me because I think Thomas is that occasional instance of a new coach and player not quite jelling. It happens, we've seen it before and we'll see it again. That and Meyers really clicking with Lawrence I could see making Thomas expendable. To your point though his contract is favorable and he's been a good soldier so even if Jax uses him as a 2-3, they have no big incentive to move him other than not having a 1st round pick this year
Good points.
So maybe the alarms are false alarms pulled by Jax's stupidity.
If they traded him for 2nd I was referring to.Stupidity seems a little strong, if Thomas and Coen just don't mesh... it happens
But if he got released he could’ve still gotten paid and signed anywhere as QB3 to avoid the Jete stank.Translation: "I'm pumped that the Jets traded for me so I get to keep this insane contract the Raiders signed me to"
No joke... if they just let him be released and then signed him, they would've paid him veteran minimum due to offset language, less than $2M. Because they traded for him, they lost a draft pick AND also have to pay him almost $30M in guaranteed salary. They are blowing almost $30M extra money and a draft pick for basically no reason.
I think a good bit less of the money wouldn’t have been guaranteed, and he would’ve ended up signing for vet minimum somewhere due to offset. But yeah, he probably would not have picked NJ, true. But if he got released he could’ve still gotten paid and signed anywhere as QB3 to avoid the Jete stank.
Or does it mean Eagles are desperate for cap space?Wonder if that means he's planning to retire after 2027...
