Player Signing Patriots signing guard Alijah Vera-Tucker

His Achilles injury happened over 3 years ago and no related issues since, so not worried about that. The first triceps was repaired 4+ years ago with no recurrence. The other arm happened just prior to last season. It's probably unlikely he'd re-injure either one.

He played his full rookie season, then missed half of season 2 with the first triceps, then missed over half of season 3 with the Achilles, then played all of season 4, then missed all of season 5 with the 2nd triceps. So he's played 2 full seasons and two half-seasons. One silver lining is he's still young, presumably hungry to play again, and doesn't have much wear on the tires. He's due for a couple of years of good injury luck.

I'm counting on AVT having had all his bad luck and remaining injury free the rest of his career.

Having said that, every Patriots fan will have their hearts in their mouths every time he goes down on the field.

I deleted my earlier post, too pessimistic.

After reading your post, I'm all in on the hopium/copium train!

He left all that bad injury luck, along with the foul stench, back in Florham Park, NJ.

He's ours now, so he's destined for greatness!

Get on the train dude, if he stays healthy, he might be the steal of FA.

Banking on a player who blows out muscles or tendons yearly is unwise.

Kristaps Porzingis agrees.

With Vera-Tucker we got a starting caliber guard in free agency. We just need a tackle now, maybe in the draft?

Biiiig upside here. Let’s go.

Very surprised by this. Thought for sure they'd be going for a stop-gap here with Bitonio.

High risk, very high reward...

Given where they are and where they're trying to go, I'll take it. When he's healthy AVT is great. Let's hope he's put that injury bug behind him.

Well, look at it this way. Given his injury status to date we’re only (2) ACL’s away from the league’s first “Bionic Guard”! Hoping fir the best and lighting a candle just in case….

Pats ****ing scooped someone again lmao. He was supposedly signed by the Giants at like 2 PM…
That's what I thought but I saw it on X first and then I saw it was posted by Schefter so... I came here to see if we were being punked.

Nice!! The upside is huge if he stays healthy.

Not a bad signing, not a great one either. Very risky. There is a chance that you end up starting Ben Brown for half the season.

this line need stability. if they were ready to pay 14M for a guy that is always injured why didn’t they pay 15.5M for David Edwards who almost never miss a game?

Jones and the FB were good signing but I don’t understand the logic behind this one. Vera-Tucker is a good player when healthy but with the state of our OL I don’t think we were in a position to take gamble like that.

Because David Edwards is not as good of a Guard as AVT. Edwards is a mediocre LG who the Bills were OK with letting walk.

Great signing if he stays healthy, can he? He was mostly healthy last year. If they just held onto Cole Strange would they have been better off. Possibly.

Either way they still have some work to do on the OLine. They should keep layering on great prospect, eventually the unit will be dominant.

For the record (in case I haven't been really, really clear for years), I love the Vera-Tucker signing, he's a binky for me, I've wanted the Patriots to make a run at him for years now.

Binky of mine, too. I have been clamoring for the Pats to sign him on the draft board.

Dude, the Celtics won a championship with Porzingis and he was a very big reason why. I would not call that unwise in any way shape or form. And he got sick the next year, nothing to do with tendons. And they moved off him quite easily. To question the signing of Porzingis when it led to a championship is quite the thing.

David Edwards is a solid LG, but has nowhere near AVT's upside. He is also not very athletic. Campbell - AVT - Wilson is perhaps the most athletic left side in the league, and will be able to do some cool things.

AVT also incredibly versatile, has started at all positions except for center.

If healthy (I know, big "if"), it could be like having Joe Thuney in his prime.
