2026 Draft: EDGE

Agreed he has areas to improve.
But he had pretty good production against quality opponents, and he has the freak athleticism and size to go with it.
He is a very enticing prospect.
I always had M Lawrence ahead of him, but think I was wrong on that.
I’m a PSU fan, so shame on me.
I like both DDS and Lawrence. Mesidor and Parker are one and two for me but where DDS/Lawrence fit in alongside Young/Jacas is the question.

This is slight hyperbole, but DDS compares similarly to M Garrett coming out. Now Myles was 16 lbs heavier, so that’s a relatively big difference, but athletic testing and final college year production were very similar.
No I’m not saying he’s the next Myles, but I would take an 80% Myles, and DDS has that kind of upside.

2-4-3-1.

- Mesidor or Parker round 1 off the opportunity exists.

- DDS or Lawrence round 2.

- Young, Jacas or Moore round 2-early 3.

Pass on #4.

Player comp time

Malachi Lawrence

6'4", 253 33 5/8" arms

Danielle Hunter

6'5", 252 34.25" arms

Malachi Lawrence

40 - 4.52
10 - 1.59
VJ - 40"
BJ - 10'10"

Danielle Hunter

40 - 4.57
10 - 1.57
VJ - 36.5"
BJ - 10'10"
3C - 6.95

I was initially going to comp DDS to Hunter as they're similar in most areas. However, DDS has a reasonably slower 10 yd split at 1.63 so chose the Lawrence comp instead. We'll have to wait on Lawrence's 3-cone.

I wanted Danielle Hunter badly back in the day. Hadn't thought of him as a Lawrence comp.

Mesidor just outside this list at 67.

I was doing a quick scan of the resting of some of the better pass rushers in the league today and I noticed, with very few exceptions, that they had 10 yard splits of 1.61 or better. Two of the three exceptions were Aidan Hutchinson (1.62), Myles Garrett (1.63) so pretty close and joey bosa (1.68) who is more of an exception.

What does that mean for the draft? Invest stock in Malachi Lawrence (1.59), Cashius Howell (1.58), Trey Moore (1.60), TJ Parker, Jaishawn Barham (both 1.61).

There have been plenty of sub 1.60 edge rushers that didn't work out, it's not a golden ticket, but those that do invariably excel in that area.

I'm going to study it further at some time - I think broad jump might have some correlation too, but just fyi. Malachi Lawrence looking even better to me.

As far as free agency goes:

Odafe Oweh - 1.59
Jaelan Phillips - 1.59
Boye Mafe - 1.59
Joseph Ossai - 1.58

So not a lot of help there.

David Bailey - 1.62
Arvell Reese - 1.58

Would be interesting to look at combo of 10-split and 3C.

Trey Moore from Texas is undersized at 243lbs played linebacker at Texas so flew under the radar as a pass rusher however when he did rush, he had the second highest pressure rate among draftable edge rushers and in 2023 at UTSA, had 13 sacks rushing off the edge. A possible value pick?

He's unblocked here but you can see his explosiveness, and it's just a fun play taking out both QB and RB at the same time.

It didn't work out this way with the switch to linebacker, but there does seem to be some untapped potential in Moore. I'd take the day 3 swing.

And DDS a little off at 1.63.

I'm looking forward to the pro days so we can get a look at Mesidor, Young, Jacas, Crawford and the rest. Barham is more interesting now.

Barham was always interesting to me.

1.63 very competitive for DDS given his size and 3C.

I am kinda salivating at the thought of Lawrence and Ponder as future bookends. Both very athletic, albeit Ponder is pretty raw but seemed to play better toward the end of the year. Mind you if we sign one of Mafe, Oweh, chaisson and a few others then Ponder will remain a rotational guy. I say rotational because there starters last year played in the 60%s of snaps and the backups were in the 20%s.

They could also bypass the 60% starter and sign Ebikitie and WIlliams on the cheap and have a fairly even rotation of Ponder, EB, Williams, Swinson?? and Lawrence

I think you need a star rusher still. I think they'll go with a top guy and then a second lower tier one.

Odafe Oweh + Kwity Paye/Sam Williams + DDS works for me.

Well I think that depends on the definition of a star. I think Chaisson fit that bill as does Mafe, Oweh and ??

Well they do by this classes standard. I was just referring to your post about going on the cheap.

Edit: Probably second tier. Phillips and Hendrickson are the 'stars'.
