Patriots Player Departure Pats trade Garrett Bradbury to the Bears for a 2027 5th

Ya, Wilson should get his opportunity at center. I understand he and Campbell were far from perfect, but they are immune from criticism in my eyes. Considering how much rookies play in the preseason, their season was essentially 24 games (minus injuries). That's 2 college seasons, and in Wilson's case, playing out of position.... and with them starting, we went to the Super Bowl and had Maye a fingernail away from the MVP.

We could grab another C or a LG, but Wilson stays on the field.

In other O-line news: Taylor Decker has requested release from the Lions. Could we bring him in? Initial intention could be to use him as the swing, but with the option to move Will inside to G, with Decker at LT.

So do you just ignore everything Vrabel says so you can get your own way, which will not happen anyway? I don't really care if you like or hate Campbell. He is the starting LT. Do you get it yet?

My expectation all along has been that we’ll sign a starting LG. I honestly think that’s a given. That moves Wilson to competing with Bradbury for C, but I’ve always been wondering if they would double up in free agency and sign another proven Center and just have Wilson be a backup, at least for a year. If they didn’t sign a veteran center, then you at least bring Bradbury to camp to compete with Wilson and cut him to save money if Wilson wins.

I still think they’ll sign a LG for sure now after this. So then I wonder if this means they’ll also look to add a vet center or maybe if they thought this return was just so good and/or they’re that confident in Wilson right off the bat.

If NE didn’t have Wilson in the waiting I’d be all in on Linderbaum. But smart play is moving Wilson to C and going out in free agency and landing a good vet LG to pair between Campbell and Wilson.

Surprised they pulled the trigger on this so soon, hopefully Wilson is up to the task. He needs to smarten up and not telegraph to defenses who he is about to block.

Assuming he’s up to the task and they get a big powerful LG or LT the offensive line should be massive and powerful. It would be awesome if we could snatch up Zion Johnson in free agency to play LG.
Ohhh Jeezus the LT talk

That’s why it doesn’t pass the smell test for me, I don’t think it means Wilson is just automatically the new center. If anything I think it means some new free agent will be the new center.

Looks like free agency will be pretty slow for pats for next 2 days . I doubt if we expend any assets in trade. Monday should be fun.

Before we decide who is starting at what position, it might be useful to see which free agents the team can sign.

Obviously, the draft and the various competitions depend on where we are after the pre-draft portions of free agency.

We could sign someone at any of the OL positions.

For now, we have
starters: Campbell, Brown, Wilson, Onwenu and Moses
backups: Wallace, Bryant
free agents: Lowe, Munford
and several camp bodies

That might actually be a tolerable roster on opening day.
I agree. However, as we have all said for months, we would do well to add a better than average LG and draft a RT (or RG). The alternative of a signing a center keeps Wilson as our starting LG.

Agree. Just saying that’s a good baseline as it stands, and if we can improve significantly on that foundation it’s not a bad lineup.

I don’t see signing a center to keep Wilson at LG. Just doesn’t make sense to me.

I agree.

I guess the opposite argument is that an underperforming 3rd round draft choice shouldn't stand in the way of getting a potentially 5- year all-pro center at a reasonable price.

As soon as I heard about the Bears C retiring, I thought, "why not trade Bradbury to them and bring back Wilson to C", but I never thought it would actually happen. A 5th next year is fair compensation. I'm glad it isn't a 26 pick we have too many 3rd day picks already (6 or 7 I think. With all the young IRed guys coming back, any draft class over 8 is too many and I think we have 11 picks so far.

My first target now would be the Bills current C. He has started at LG and was a decent performer at the position. He's a great plan B if the Wilson experiment fails, AND you weaken your main rival to the division. McGrath would be my first target on Monday.

Free agency does not open until next week. Legal tampering is Monday. Of course its slow for the next 2 days.

Good we need a Center that Excels in Run Blocking.

Seems obvious.

To anyone who can't read or listen it's obvious. Will Campbell is their left tackle, period. Vrabel has made that abundantly clear for everyone who can listen to his press conferences or read the transcripts of them.

I’m not sure it matters much, they know they have an offensive line position to fill. Either spring for a high end starter, or sign a value vet and draft the best player available.

If they want a really big dominating line, moving 320 pound Wilson inside to center makes sense.
