OT: Womens U.S Hockey Wins Gold!!

I see your point, but the mens team just erased 46 years of misery.

What the women have done is incredible. It's reminiscent of the UConn women's basketball...just dominance and it's awesome to see, and an inspiration to young American women.

The men's sport is extremely competitive at the top, and the US is usually on the losing side of those matchups. To actually beat the Canadian men's team in the Gold Medal game is crazy. It was a hump they just couldn't get over.

And it's a byproduct of how far the men's game has come here to catch up. I mean, the team captain was raised AND played his formative years in ****in Arizona. We've come a long way from when I was a young American player in the sun belt that had to go to Canada to develop my game. It's just really cool to see.

And basically the Women have been much more dominant with their competition with three gold medals (2026, 2018, 1998) four silver medals (2002, 2010, 2014, 2022) and one bronze medal (2006) just in the last 25 years

Whereas the men have been much more submissive in the International Arena for a VERY long time (46 years) so I guess that makes it a bigger deal on a national level - hence the Medal of Freedom, SOTU, Cheeseburgers, etc. and some feel a need to make the women the butt of a joke because winning isn't as abnormal for them as it is for the men.

It kindof reminds me of the Patriots being in the Super Bowl every other year and winning half of them for a 20 year stretch

Whereas you will STILL have people who SWEAR Joe Montana is the best ever because, while yes, he typically lost in the playoffs well BEFORE the Super Bowl, that shows how GREAT he is since he won the Super Bowl in the few years he made it there!

I think much of this is because Trump (and Patel and others) have a different attitude toward men's sports compared to women's sports. Was the greatest skier EVAH invited to the White House with a telephone invite at her party after her medal? Of course not.

There was a kid in my home town who played hockey as a 9th grader and then went to Canada. I'm not sure how much it helped him but it hurt the HS team

Women's hockey didn't exist back then, but some years later I coached a young girl in baseball who was great at everything, especially hockey. She ended up getting a full scholarship to Yale.

Women's hockey has come along relatively fast.

I've been lucky to be a fan of two of the greatest runs in sports history. Bill and Red in the NBA (#1) and Tom and Bill in the NFL (#2).

The best ever QB discussion is over. The only true discussion now is who's #2.

He called the men’s hockey team (much like Carter did in 1980) after the most exciting US Olympic hockey game in almost a half century.

You people need to relax with the whole “oh yeah? Well why didn’t he call so-and-so? Why didn’t he call the others? Why didn’t he call them???” routine.

Where do you TDSers come up with this ****?

Women and girls have liked his attitude about women's sports from the beginning...

There's an actual controversy about this - not made up.

And a lot of people do think it's funny that the President says he HAS to invite the women to the WH because they think they are somehow equal to the men and that's cute, but then again that's typical beta thinking.

It's weird and sadly tarnished the men's team image, if that means anything in terms of marketing and their own ability to profit from their win over time.

I think you're seeing at least a few of the men's players openly apologizing for laughing. They were put in a very unfortunate situation. I wouldn't be surprised if half of them didn't hear what he said on the phone when it was happening and just laughed because it's supposed to be celebratory moment of the best in sportsmanship, and sadly that was taken away from them.

The women have taken the high road in terms of sportsmanship and even sympathy for the men's team.
