My Ridiculously Early Start on a 2026 Offseason Plan

Calculate your mock free agency accordingly

Some people get excited when the cap goes up because they think it means there’s a bigger chance they can land more players. The reality though is that a cap increasing more than expected has 2 effects: 1) more teams deciding to hold on to potentially deadweight contracts because they’re not as hard pressed against the cap - Mike Onwenu might be a great example here, playing well enough and the Pats having enough cap space now that it doesn’t seem as urgent to create space, so they could keep him as is, and 2) the actual contracts signed by pending and actual free agents are far higher than what anyone would guess; the extra cap space creates a ton of inflation for free agents because teams have nowhere else to spend the money otherwise.

So good news for the players that they’re getting more money. But it really shouldn’t impact what we can do in free agency except that there may be fewer guys available who were cut from other teams than expected.

I put Freeling at the top, pray that I don't have to pick between Mesidor and Iheanachor. Agree with the rest.

Question: how much wpuld you give up to get 2 of them?

I wouldn't. I don't want to lose any picks next year. I'd trade a 4th to move up from 64 if one of them, or Zion young, fell within reach.

They are stuck with Rham for one more year. I'd propose giving up draft picks (5th-7th) just so another team takes that awful contract off their hands.
I thought Rham was good after he figured out how to hang onto the ball early in the season.

EDIT: I just realized I responded to a post dated early in the season when there was real doubt whether Rham could fix his fumbling issues. But credit him and his coaches, he did.

I agree, tempting though it would be.

The question is would those 2 or 3 guys be as impactful as Crosby could be? I don't know the answer to that question, but that needs to be in the discussion.

A 2nd and 4th for Crosby and one of the 4 OTs in the 1st would be a winner for me.

As far as cap goes, they could restructure Crosby to lower the cap # and there are other restructures they can do to free up more space.

As far as impact goes he has had 4 out of 7 seasons with double digit sacks and has never had less than 7 sacks in a season. I am not sure if Landry is back but his spot needs upgraded. While I like Crosby and think it would be a massive upgrade, do we want to put that much money into the DL or as @One-If-By-Sea suggested get 2 or 3 players to upgrade other spots or build better depth.

Personally I would like to see money invested on the OL, because that should help the pass and run game and the defense is solid as is. I think that Landrys spot can be upgraded in the draft. Either way keep investing in the trenches.

If I were making the decisions I would sign David Edwards (LG only big external signing) and kick Wilson back to Center and let him and Bradbury fight it out in TC. I think Wilson is a liability at LG and prefer a good vet next to Campbell. I would not trade for Crosby and use the picks to be able to dance around the draft board.

Great post. I agree.

The other issue is when you spend so much on one player, who will be 29 next season, if he gets injured you have a huge hole with limited depth. If you sign someone like Crosby you have to pray for health and draft really well in '26 and '27. It would be great to have Crosby, but it is a really risky path (trade draft picks for a high priced veteran) that Vrabel and crew have avoided so far.

Lots of posters scream how well Howie Roseman has done at the Eagles. Roseman has taken a lot of risks. Roseman's decisions will come home to roost over the next few years and we will see if he can maintain the one Super Bowl level of play. I doubt it - water finds its level.

How does re-signing Chaisson factor into trading for Crosby? Do you see it as an either/or or doing the two together. Chaisson will obviously be significantly more expensive to re-sign than his current contract.

Can we obtain another DT and add Barmore and Williams to an EDGE rotation?
I'm trying to think of the downsides and I can only really come up with two.

1. You'd need a rangy linebacker to defend the edges because DTs lack the athleticism of a traditional edge.

2. An OT wouldn't have to worry about defending his outside because he knows a DT wouldn't offer the speed and ability to rush his outside shoulder and bend the corner an EDGE would have. He would know he only needs to defend a bull rush or the move inside.

A 4-man DT front of Barmore-Banks/Hunter-Durden/Tonga-Williams would be fun though.
