My Ridiculously Early Start on a 2026 Pats Big Board

I haven't started re-working my Pats' big board, but factoring in need, talent and value, there are roughly 17 players who I would take without hesitation at 31-32.

In very rough order:

1. Arvell Reese, LB/EDGE
2. David Bailey, EDGE
3. Caleb Downs, S
4. Rueben Bain, EDGE
5. Monroe Freeling, OT
6. Francis Mauigoa, OL
7. Sonny Styles, LB
8. Spencer Fano, OL
9. Jermod McCoy, CB
10a. Akheem Mesidor, EDGE
10b. Keldric Faulk, EDGE
12. Kenyon Sadiq, TE
13. Caleb Lomu, OT
14. TJ Parker, EDGE
15. Emmanuel Pregnon, IOL
16. Olaivavega Ioane, IOL
17. Dillon Thieneman, S

The order is very crude, highly subjective, and not important. It won't stay fixed. I would personally be very satisfied that any of those 17 players would be a significant addition.

There are another 4 IDL who I consider clear 1st round talents/values, though it is not a position of need: Peter Wood, Caleb Banks, Kayden McDonald and Lee Hunter.

Fernando Mendoza will go #1, Jeremiyah Love top 15 or earlier. There are at least 5 highly likely 1st round WRs (Tyson, Tate, Lemon, Concepcion and Boston), and another 5 likely 1st round DBs in addition to Downs and McCoy (Delane, Terrell, Hood, Cisse and McNeil-Warren).

That's 34 players. I think there is a high probability one of those 34 - hopefully one of those 17 - will be the pick if the Pats stay at 31-32.

Very good list. Charles Demmings? De'Angelo Ponds?

Guys likely gone before we pick:
QB (1) Mendoza
RB (1) Love
WR (3) Tyson, Tate, Lemon
TE (1) Sadiq
OL (2) Fano, Mauigoa
DL (1) Woods
Edge/LB (5) Reese, Bain, Bailey, Styles, Faulk
DB (4) Downs, McCoy, Delane, Terrell

18 guys there.

What we need:
1) Somebody to come up and draft Ty Simpson
2) A run on WR (Concepcion, Branch, Boston)
3) A run on DT (McDonald, Banks, Hunter, Miller)
4) A run on CBs (Cisse, Hood)

Let’s say 4 of those guys get taken. Now we’re at 22 guys gone.

Need a few more things to happen, but might put us in the Freeling range. Lomu, Proctor, Ioane and Pregnon still there.

With the amount of picks that we have, they can also trade up if somebody Pats really love is falling

I am a bit of a contrarian in this draft when it comes to fits for the Pats. As of right now:

- I like Monroe Freeling, Max Iheanachor, and possibly Caleb Lomu better than Spencer Fano and Francis Mauigoa.

- I like Treydan Stukes at S more than Caleb Downs.

- I like Caleb Banks and Lee Hunter at DT better than Peter Woods.

- I like Emmanuel Pregnon, Chase Bisontis, and possibly Keylan Rutledge at IOL more than Vega Ioane.

- I possibly like Ted Hurst more than Denzel Boston.

This is NOT anything against the less-liked players. They are all really good. I just think the guys listed may be better fits for the Pats in terms of versatility, skill set, and physical/athletic profile. Measurements and testing will be interesting.

Very good list. I might try the same.

I wanted to capture what I thought was needed, and who could make a difference.

- First group were home runs, but probably out of reach.

- Second group were "my guys", guys I wpuld build a team around.

- Third group were "difference makers" - guys I thought added an extra dimension. Just a shade behind "my guys" for me personally, but generally just as good.

- Last group were solid fill-ins over all 3 days - not the guys I was targeting, but good players I would be happy with if the draft fell that way.

I also adjusted for FA:

- With Doubs, Boutte and Williams, I do not see as much of a need for a "Diggs replacement" guy. A true or developmental alpha X and a guy with speed and short area quickness will open up the offense.

- EDGE, RT, RG, TE, LB, S3, outside CB, NT and RB depth are needs, so I focused on those areas.

I think I might do mine by position rather than a top 100. Probably not today though.

My updated Pats board.

Day 1:

These 20 guys are players I consider worth taking at 31 without reaching, and who would immediately improve the team. I would take them in the order listed. Many will be long gone, but it's not inconceivable there will be 11 players taken not on this list ahead of 31. I do not include positions not likely to be picked (QB, RB), players I don't consider great schematic fits (Vega Ioane, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren), or players whose schematic fit is redundant with what we already have (Makai Lemon, KC Concepcion, Omar Cooper).

The first 13 are all OL or DL/EDGE, except for Sonny Styles.

1. Arvell Reese, LB/EDGE, Ohio St.
2. David Bailey, EDGE, Texas Tech
3. Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia
4. Caleb Banks, DT, Florida
5. Sonny Styles, LB, Ohio St.
6. Francis Mauigoa, OL, Miami
7. Max Iheanachor, OT, Arizona St.
8. Caleb Lomu, OT, Utah
9. Blake Miller, OT, Clemson
10. Keldric Faulk, EDGE, Auburn
11. Rueben Bain, EDGE, Miami
12. Akheem Mesidor, EDGE, Miami
13. Spencer Fano, OL, Utah
14. Dillon Thieneman, S, Oregon
15. Caleb Downs, S, Ohio St.
16. Jermod McCoy, CB, Tennessee
17. Jordyn Tyson, WR, Arizona St.
18. Kenyon Sadiq, TE, Oregon
19. Mansoor Delane, CB LSU
20. Carnell Tate, WR, Ohio St.

Early-Mid Day 2:

These 25 players are all very good players, but would not be my preference at 31. I would love to get any of them in the second round, including with a trade back from 31 if none of the 20 players in the first group slips.

21. Dani Dennis-Sutton, EDGE, Penn St.
22. Treydan Stukes, S/nickel, Arizona
23. TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson
24. Peter Woods, DT, Clemson
25. Jake Golday, LB, Cincinnati
26. Jacob Rodriguez, LB, Texas Tech
27. Chris Bell, WR. Louisville
28. Ted Hurst, WR, Georgia St.
29. Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech
30. Malachi Lawrence, EDGE, UCF
31. Gabe Jacas, EDGE, Illinois
32. Zion Young, EDGE, Missouri
33. Kayden McDonald, DT, Ohio St.
34. CJ Allen, LB, Georgia
35. Avieon Terrell, Nickel, Clemson
36. Keionte Scott, Nickel/S, Miami
37. Mike Washington, RB, Arkansas
38. Eli Stowers, TE, Vanderbilt
39. Denzel Boston, WR, Washington
40. Kadyn Proctor, OL, Alabama
41. Chase Bisontis, IOL, Texas A&M
42. Emmanuel Pregnon, IOL, Oregon
43. Brandon Cisse, CB, S. Carolina
44. Devin Moore, CB, Florida
45. D'Angelo Ponds, Nickel, Indiana

Late Day 2/Early Day 3:

These 30 prospects are all players I would be happy getting in the 3rd and 4th rounds. The top ones are late 2nd/early 3rd fallback options.

46. Kyle Louis, LB/S, Pittsburgh
47. Sam Roush, TE, Stanford
48. Max Klare, TE, Ohio St.
49. Jardarian Price, RB, Notre Dame
50. VJ Payne, S, Kansas St.
51. Zakee Wheatley, S, Penn St.
52. Dametrious Crownover, OT, Texas A&M
53. Keyron Crawford, EDGE, Auburn
54. Derrick Moore, EDGE, Michigan
55. Oscar Delp, TE, Georgia
56. Jonathan Joseph, EDGE, Tennessee
57. Josiah Trotter, LB, Missouri
58. Keylan Rutledge, IOL, Georgia Tech
59. Gennings Dunker, IOL, Iowa
60. Julian Neal, CB, Arkansas
61. Anthony Hill, LB, Texas
62. Darrell Jackson, DL, Florida St.
63. Gracen Halton, DL Oklahoma
64. Zachariah Branch, WR, Georgia
65. Brenen Thompson, WR, Mississippi St.
66. Romello Height, EDGE, Texas Tech
67. Jaishawn Barham, EDGE, Michigan
68. Justin Joly, TE, NC St.
69. Michael Trigg, TE, Baylor
70. Malachi Fields, WR
71. Christian Miller, DL, Georgia
72. Domonique Orange, DL, Iowa St.
73. Keith Abney, CB, Arizona St.
74. Ja'Kobi Lane, WR, USC

Notes on the above:

1. I left out very good prospects at positions of non-need.

2. I left out a ton of WRs who I thought would be redundant with Doubs-Boutte-Williams. I either targeted X receivers or "ankle breakers".

3. I left out a ton of good Ss who I felt weren't good schematic fits.

4. OT and EDGE were my highest needs, followed by X WR, S, TE, LB and CB depth.

My ideal draft:

31. Max Iheanachor, OT, Arizona St.
63. Dani Dennis-Sutton, EDGE, Penn St.
95. Ted Hurst, WR, Georgia Tech
125. Kyle Louis, LB/S, Pittsburgh
131. Sam Roush, TE, Stanford
171. VJ Payne, S, Kansas St.
191. Keagan Trost, OL, Missouri
198. Ephesians Prysock, CB, Washington
202. Adam Randall, RB, Clemson
212. Eli Heidenreich, WR, Navy
247. Damonte Capehart, DT, Clemson

Those first 3 picks are pretty perfect.

Sign me up!! If we could swap DDS for Jacas it would make it absolutely perfect for me.

But I really do like DDS

I prefer DDS to Jacas, would be happy with either at 63.

Always sad at missing out on Treydan Stukes.

Would have liked to get Devin Moore or CJ Demmings.

Can't have everything.
