Patriots Player Departure Mac Jones traded to Jags for a 6th

The Mac Jones debacle is a stain on BB’s legacy. Also the organization as a whole treated this kid poorly. Was his behavior and takent ideal?? No, but BB screwed up any chance this kid had to develop as a starting caliber QB. Doug Pederson will fix him, treat him well and the Patriots organization will be embarassed by this whole episode.
He will be a good qb with proper handling.

I wonder what happens if McDaniels doesn't think he can be a head coach again. Stays in NE and builds on macs rookie year. Very few if any qbs are gonna thrive in that type of situation.

He reportedly talked about how he had to stay in Mac’s ear through the cutoff at the line, which I don’t really get his issue with. He did the same with Brady…so it’s not like it’s a huge deal.

Curious to see what happens with Pederson as he’s definitely a guy who has done well with rehabbing/developing QBs. Look at guys who flourished and then fell apart after he moved on…maybe this will be good for Jones, who knows…? But there was definitely no way he could have stayed here.

I’m just happy that part of Pat’s history is done and we can move on. Also, #10 is available for Drake Maye now.

You can bet that Peterson will be a blessing for Mac. Everyone said he has talent and Bourne, Judon and others in the Pats organization have spoken up for him and said that they wanted to play with him.
BB never forgave Mac for calling outside the organization for help.

Mac will be one of the main reasons why BB will NOT go down as the greatest coach of all time. Top 5 yes.

He doesn’t have a path to starter though unless something happens to Lawrence.

How is Peterson going to make Mac be able to throw a ball to the sidelines on an out so the defenses stopping putting 8 and 9 guys in the box? Mac will never be able to throw a deep out, but how do you think Peterson will make Mac be able to throw a short/quick out?

Mac's poor performance the past 2 years was due to a lack of confidence and weapons.
Peterson will build his confidence back up.
While he does not have a Josh Allen like arm...he can make the throws if his head is screwed on right.
He made the throws his rookie year.

Brees supposedly struggled with that and couldn’t do that either until he bulked way up. Can’t imagine Jones getting that big, but it would be funny to see if he ultimately ends up going that route. Supposedly he was already adding pounds at the end of the year, but I just can’t see it.

How is Pederson going to stop Mac from playing with Trevor's hair in the QB room?

Lawrence has been pretty pedestrian so I don't know if Pederson is going to be the guy that turns Mac around. I do think Mac can remerge on the right team/HC/Scheme with some talent if he can work on his weaknesses.

Here's a glaring stat for you guys. As bad as Mac Jones played after 2021, he averaged 1.09 TD's per games played. Lawrence averages 1.16 TD's per game. Lawrence averages 235 yards per game to Jones' 212.

Pederson's also not an easy guy to play for having watched some of the footage of him getting after Lawrence. He's tough on guys, but he's done a good job coaching some of those bad habits out of him. Needless to say, he'll have his work cut out for him with Mac and it'll be interesting to see if he flames out or if he turns himself around.

No he didn't so the opposing teams added 8 or 9 guys in the box about Week 10 or 11, and after that, even with McDaniels as the OC, Mac was awful. Looking at the first 9 or 10 games of Mac's rookie year is an illusion.

Very good article by Phil Perry. I might add I sure hope a big chunk of this fan base is fairer and more patient with the next guy if the trajectory of his career has some downs along with the ups.

Yes, it depends on Mac bulking up A LOT - Mac tried bulking up for 2 years and it did not work. That is why it is interesting to see if it ever happens.

Sometimes a shorter guy has a tighter motion so he can throw with more velocity, and some of the taller QBs do not have the body type to bulk up so they can never throw on a rope. After 3 years, everyone in the NFL (the professionals) has voiced their opinion by offering a 6th or 7th rounder for Mac. Offering a 6th or 7th rounder is basically saying that the other 31 GMs and their staffs think it is a very long shot that Mac will be able to bulk up.

But we still have posters here thinking that the 32 GMs in the league are wrong. Amazing.

Thanks for the article. I think the vast majority of the fan base waited 3 years before being done with Mac. How long do you think a fan base should be patient for?
