I get your excitement. He looked good out there under constant pressure. However, there's a few things to consider:
1. Home game.
2. Josh kept him safe w/ play calls, mainly quick short passes.
3. Good pass/run (56/44) mix.
4. Played against a very well known opponent (5 games between Flores & BB) in 3 years.

This is a long season. We have yet to see him play on the road, under "must win" scenario, or having to carry the team on his shoulders. He's extremely intelligent but also a perfectionist, which isn't necessarily a good trait.

Again, excellent start, but imo we just haven't seen enough to draw any far reaching conclusions. I'm just trying to be realistic not a debbie downer.

I think this trait worked pretty well for Tom Brady. :)

I guess it depends on you view the season overall. Many people expect this team to be a playoff team given the amount of money spent in the off-season, the draft and getting Jones as our QB. If that is the expectation then a loss to the Jets is absolutely devastating as it would be 2 division losses to start the season to 2 teams we were expected to beat. The division is all but lost at that point and the chances of making the playoffs at 0-2 are 12 percent.

But if the expectation is to see this team and Mac develop then I agree a loss is nothing to panic about at all. It may end up being a rough season record-wise but watching the team come together and Mac hopefully continue to progress will be satisfying.
I expect this team to be a wild card team at best, would be amazed if we win the division given how much talent BUF has, and of course MIA has been giving us a run for our money over the last few seasons as well. The good news for us is BUF has the tougher schedule given they won the division last year.

We spent the amount of money we spent because we were behind the curve after eating TB12's "voidable years" dead cap hit plus a few more other ones. It was not a "win now" move, it was a "catch up to where we should have been" move. One podcast I admire is getting this wrong since they don't really understand the Pats all that well, and it's frustrating to listen to. We still have lots of cap space for next season and most of our draft capital as well, whereas "win now" would drain all those things down as well.

I think BB was fully prepared for this to be another rebuilding year with Cam as QB1, and he'd be doing the real big spending next off season to bring in a QB1 and (sadly) Gilly's replacement. We're a year ahead of schedule because Mac fell to us and showed he can start. We're in a far better position with money and draft capital because of it, yet IMO we still don't have all the pieces and enough experience to expect to do a deep playoff run, especially with Gilly's "sit in".

Interesting theory: When Bill says he "makes all the throws" he's throwing shade:

He makes all the throws: good throws, bad throws, throws he shouldn't have made in the first place...

All good points, but confidence isn't taught. You either have it or you don't.

And to have the kind of confidence to just wink at a top 5 NFL defense trying to intimidate you, is something you get to see once a generation, if you're lucky.

Not in NE with Brady. No one said a word from 2007-2012 when his postseason performances were the elephant in the room.
Losses are a team stat as much as wins are. Not a QB stat.

I think you're right on the money here.

If the Pats play a meaningful game in January, I'll consider the season a success, and be expecting a deep run next year.

Same. If all goes well I think this team's window to contend opens in 2022 with Mac putting himself in the top 10 for QB's.

No doubt he's confident. So is Cousins.

Sure but Brady is 1 in a million. All I'm saying is we just don't have enough information on him yet (at least I don't). Good start but it's a long season. He'll face many challenges. Need to see how he handles them is all.

Sure. But I like I said, it is about expectations. It is a "win now" league and I think most fans are anxious to see us get back into the post-season. I agree that it is another rebuilding year and also a year to see which FAs we hit on as well.

Rest Brown this week would rather have him back for cam Jordan week 3.

I said after the season end that we were basically where the Rex Ryan Bills were 3 years prior. Good running game, good defense and not much on offense. Then they drafted Josh Allen and now look at them. That didn't happen overnight.

If it means we have to cringe and watch Brady and the Bucs repeat and think of what could have been in the meantime so be it. I think we'll all be rewarded soon with a really good team to watch every week. Hopefully the team can give Bill a 7th ring as coach before he walks away.

I think it is interesting that Roberts knew our play. Flores really had them prepared for us.
Yup, that's the real story here. Flores basically grew up inside the Patriots organization. He doesn't get enough credit for the masterful play calling during SB LIII.

No doubt he's confident. So is Cousins.

What?? No, Cousins is not confident. He won't throw to a WR unless that WR has 10 yards separation.
