Yes, BB doesn't have a WR drafting track record like the Steelers do...

But we need to recognize that Harry is his highest WR drafted in 20 years. If he had been striking out with multiple first rounders...then I'd also not want him drafting WR's. Here's his track record by round:

1st - 0-1, Harry hasn't worked out YET, I hope.

2nd - 1-3, Branch was good for us twice. Bethel Johnson had speed OK..made some plays...but not a hit. Chad Jackson was bad. Aaron Dobson showed flashes, but wasn't a hit.

3rd - 0-2, Taylor Price never did anything. Brandon Tate had speed, but not a hit.

4th - 1-1, Malcolm Mitchell was solid, but Josh Boyce wasn't.

5th - 1-1, PK Sam never did anything and Matt Slater is a HOF gunner, IMO.

6th - 0-1, Braxton Berrios was given up on too quickly, but caught on elsewhere.

7th - 2-3.....MAJOR hits in Edelman and Givens. Misses in Devin Lucien (although I thought he had a good camp a few years ago), Jeremy Gallon, and Jeremy Egbert.

BB is 5/17 or batting .294....not too terrible when it was off set by great TE (Graham, Watson, Gronk, Hernandez) and passing back (Vereen and White....Woodhead was a FA I think) drafts as well as free agency/trades (Moss, Welker, Cooks, etc...).

I would be excited if he took a top flight WR like Smith, Waddle, or Chase...I mean it is easier to draft talent when you get to choose early....
Slater was not a WR but a Safety listed in the draft. He should be on the list.

David Givens best season was 878 yards for 4 TD. Brandon LeFell had a 900 yard season with 7TDs. Reche Caldwell also has a 800 yard season with 5TDs with Brady throwing it to him

David Givens is a tad overrated by pats fans. He was nothing more than a #3 wr on good squad which is why Bill let him walk in FA.

Did sbd. Post here where the 9ers were interested in a trade for Cousins? In this offseason i believe, could have been just speculation from the author as well
Shanahan coached Cousins in Washington, where he had some sucess, so that would be a natural assumption that if Cousins became available, Shanahan would go after him. His contract with the Vikings in untradable especially after March 20, 2021, when his $35 million base salary became fully guaranteed.

I wish I was Cousins' agent, nobody has gamed the system for more guaranteed money than he has!

Thou shall never speak ill of David Givens!

Playoff stats: 8 games, 35 receptions, 324 yards, 7 TD

conclusion
With the exception of Branch, Bill is only good at 7th rounders and UDFA's.

You are right, I gave him too many TDs and yards. It was 874 for 3 TDs.

Unless you like his last season better of 738 yards and 2 TDs.

Or 500 yards with 6TDs.

Nothing earth shattering.
To be fair nobody is saying he was a superstar or anything like. But for a 7th round throw of the dart, he contributed quite a bit and came up big in the playoffs especially. He was a net positive for them. It’s unfortunate that his career ended so soon, played his last NFL game at age 26 due to injury.

I fully agree on all accounts, especially his career ending the way it did.

I think you are underrating Givens, but that is OK. The Titans seemed to think highly enough of him to out bid us. I know that we missed him badly in '06. That winning TD in the '04 intentional safety game in Denver against the Kannel Broncos was HUGE, IMO.

LaFell and Caldwell (R.I.P.) made an impact...but they were free agent signings not drafted players. Man, Caldwell's grab @SD in '06 man.....

So, if BB takes Smith, Waddle, or trades up for Chase....those guys will DEFINITELY be busts?

How can Berrios be a miss, if he caught on? What difference does it make which team it is, if the drafting ability is what's being analyzed?

6-16 isn't THAT much different than the numbers for the vaunted Steelers, who from what I read here, can pick all pro WR's with one hand tied behind and blindfolded. And they use higher draft picks on average.

None of those WRs were All Pros, although Edelman was very near close.

Other than Edelman, none of those WRs ever had a 1,000 yard season.

Martavius Bryant, Santonio Holmes, Plexico Burress, Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson, Mike Wallace, JuJu Smith, Markus Wheaton.

All those guys matched or greatly excelled everyone the pats ever drafted.

Wheaton before getting hurt and leaving the Steelers had comparable numbers to Givens, and Wheaton is somehow considered a bust. Only Branch and Edelman had definitively better seasons than Wheaton.

So yes, the Steelers spank the pats at drafting WRs and having coaches that trip players running down the sidelines.

Just because Berrios caught 37 passes on one of the worst teams in football doesn't mean he's any good. I highly doubt if we brought him back here that he would look any better than the non-NFL talent we saw when he was here.

You don't think any of that is game system and QB? Seriously?

Ben runs around to extend plays, which makes for flashier receiver plays downfield, while Brady is dinking and dunking to SB championships in a system that favored Welker, Eldeman, Amendola, TEs, etc.
