Bengals release QB Andy Dalton

I thought the signing of Tebow at the time was to show he could remake Tebow into a great QB. I didn't mean to imply it was to replace Brady right away.

In mean that is true for any player off the discount pile they sign.

I would rather go 3-13 under Jarrett Stidham than 9-7 under Dalton this year. If Stidham is lightning in a bottle and actually wins right away, bonus! But Dalton has no upside.

Dalton does have a cannon over Hoyer

Imo Hoyer is there to mentor Stidham. I dont really see the upside Dalton would have over Hoyer given the latter's substantial experience with the Pats offense.

But that's just my view on it.

I really hope not, mediocrity personified. He’s taking us nowhere so might as well roll with stid. Way cheaper too

Jacksonville makes the most sense for Dalton, I think. Their top backup is Joshua Dobbs and UDFA Jake Luton is the only other QB on the roster.

Just finished listening to Charlie Weis on SiriusXM. He thinks Dalton would be a real good signing for the Pats and has been saying it for months if Brady should leave.

I know he’s not an expert like many posters here nor one of those “this guy sucks” tough guys who also post here. He’s just a guy with 3 SB rings coaching the Patriots offense. The same offense they still run. He thinks Dalton would be real good in this offense and would really push Stidham to beat him out as the starter. But, what does he know?

He also called Brady leaving the Pats if not signed by 3/1. On the Dalton thing, I think he’s just spit balling based on the previous reported interest in Dalton. He’s good for some nuggets of information but, other than that, he’s a terrible fit for radio with his constant mouth breathing, constant sucking in of spit in the corners of his lips, and constantly losing track of what he’s saying. He’s better than Gil Brandt at this point, but that’s about it.

They did sign Tebow once for the same reason so there's that....

Uhhh...what?

Side note: I watched the Broncos Pats playoff game when Tebow was the QB with a bunch of Gator fans down in FL who swore up and down that Tebow was a better NFL QB than Brady. Funny how that turned out...

I can't root for a ginger. I'm sorry. Can't win with em. Need my QBs with souls.

Newton or Dalton?????
This makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

Newton is a hard pass. Dalton is just a pass, but there's been so much smoke around him, that I think there may be something to it. I'd rather see how the kid does.

I would take Dalton as a backup over Hoyer no question, but at Jameis type money. Absolutely no interest in him coming in as the starter. I'm full on team Stidham

No question Bill wants to show he can win without Brady. Being able to remake Dalton into a contender would be a cherry on top of his career and maybe shows it was more Bill and less Brady that made the Patriots go.

I don't think Bill's ego will drive the signing of Dalton.

It'll be Bill's desire to field a competitive team.

I joined this board at the same time when he was signed. His fanboys and girls were here. Im sure you can imagine what that was like.

Huh? So Belichick doing anything other than laying down in the corner and losing on purpose means he has an ego and it’s all about brady?
Tebow? The guy who was competing for qb3 and got cut? That was bill showing the world?
You have to get out more, find a job that has some type of competitive nature to it. Play one on one basketball with you buddy for 10 bucks. You gave a warped idea of why people are motivated to succeed.

True. Bill definitely has an ego but I’d say Bill also has no problem signing/drafting a guy to push who he believes is his starter. Brady was lousy in 2013 and then JG showed up and made Brady better.
