OBJ to Pats—what do we think?

Yeah but it’s not like our offense put up great numbers in SB 42 even if Eli is sacked. Our offense doesn’t work as well with those type of receivers. I thought Gordon getting suspended again helped our team, simply because Brady wasn’t zeroing in on him all the time or pressing to get him involved in the offense.
Brady doesn’t zero in on receivers. Never has.

I usually won’t do this but look.

We’re going to win 7 next year and then I see massive change. Don’t get it twisted, these guys believe they can set the record. I see no reason not to try. Thing is, next year, we’re winning again but I see an end after seven for this roster.

I don't.

The Patriots have successfully shifted towards a power running / playaction football team and the NFL isn't ready for it.

In the last 5 games NE has averaged 178 rushing yards, 439 yards of offense and outgained opponents by 176 yards per game.

Michel will be a beast next year, they'll add another power RB and a deep threat for PA. Pats will also add some nice DL talent through the draft.

I see a good 3 year window.

I would hate paying a WR that much. OBJ is a nightmare personality wise. More so than Dillon..Ocho ect. Use that for Flowers..Brown ect. A good WR can take us to the SB as well have all seen..don't need an elite WR

He might not zero in on guys, but he excludes other guys if he doesn’t trust them. So that’s a roundabout way of “zeroing in”.
Disagree. He runs progressions faithfully.
Different players with different abilities have different definitions of “open”.
To suggest that Brady has had receivers in patterns that when he got to them in the progression and they were open, and he refused to throw to them is flat out wrong. I know it’s an old wives tale among some but it’s just not true.
When a play breaks down certainly he looks for the best receiver that he has the most comfort level with.

I have no interest. He makes way too much money. We need to resign Flowers and possibly Brown. He is unreliable on multiple fronts: he lacks maturity, has character issues and seems to get injured regularly. This is not the kind of player I would want to give up a lot of money or precious draft capital for.
I would much rather hire somebody with a track record of success. Give them 500k a year or whatever to scout WRs. It's maddening that teams like Pittsburgh can pluck excellent WRs out of the draft like they grow on trees, yet we are consistently picking busts, even in round one. I don't know if it's fit, a byproduct of the offense being needlessly complex or if there is just a flaw in our evaluation process. But it really needs to stop. We wouldn't need to have these ridiculous conversations about trading for/signing every big money, big name WR that becomes availiable. WR is a position that you don't need to overpay for. There's a ton of talent out there, but you have to draft well.

I don’t see us giving such a huge contract to a wr without knowing how hed grasp this offense. Moss and cooks were our biggest wr trades. Moss made like 3 mill his first year and cooks make 6-8 mill?

There is no way I see this happening. Don't think you need a player like him or A Brown to win...I like my Jules a whole lot better!!! Also wouldn't mind a reunion with Danny clutch as well.

He can show all the love he wants I'd rather use the draft capital to trade up for a future QB if we think that guys in there.

Cooks was still on his rookie deal with the Pats, has had a cap hit of 1.5M

Let's be OBJective

THIS.

a.) OBJ would be a great addition to the offense. He makes plays all right.

b.) He would be expensive even just salary-wise and in draft capital.

c.) I am seeing it like this: Keeping Trey Flowers (or signing an equivalent UFA) + 2019 1st + 2019 2nd vs. OBJ. It is what I think it'll cost to get OBJ and fit him under our cap.

I still want to resign both Patterson and dorsett if we can get them on the cheap. Even though his route running isn’t the best Patterson shows value to the offense on sweeps, and is able to be used in the backfield in a pinch. Plus he’s a dynamic return man. With dorsett, I think he’s a little better than hogan at this stage, knows the offense and can be a useful #4 wr. I think we add another wr through FA and also in the draft.
Eggs-actly, RasMan. Dorsett & Patterson might not be as expensive to re-sign, unless one, some, or all of MIA, TEN, HOU, DET, ATL & TB decide to poach us in an attempt to bring in Pats With Rings into their buildings to help set the tone.

Best-possibly-realistic-case at WR:
Edelman - Golden Tate - Gordon (at low-risk wages)
Dorsett - Patterson - Rookie (a good one for a change, please)

I would love to have Beckham. He isn’t in the same stratosphere of jerk like Antonio Brown.

I just don’t think it will happen, as the Giants would end paying, what, $50M for one year of Beckham if they traded him right now? That would have to cost at least two first round picks, and the Patriots always pick late.

I made a comment a few years ago that the Pats offense runs through Edelman (and was laughed at by some). So far, we have 3 super bowls with Edelman in the lineup and 2 super bowl losses where he didn't play or was not the featured receiver.

That rationale is so lazy.

Not really. It’s the truth. Our offense is better with Julian Edelmans and Danny Amendolas than OBJ or Antonio Brown types. Why fix what isn’t broken?

When has the pats O had AB/OBJ types?
