Remember last year when Sean McDermott was the Darling of the press and the savior who was going to turn around this franchise??? Announcers were drooling all over the place... he was instilling a "winning culture"....

Yeah, he went out at the top of his game. It just came at an awkward moment.

I hope Mr. Davis is prepared to write a nice fat check back to the Bills for his signing bonus. As a vested veteran, his contract was guaranteed once he was on the roster for week one. Now he won't get 14/16 of it and if the Bills wanted to go after his signing bonus ( $1.5-2 million IIRC) they probably could, if only to prevent a bad precedent for future FAs....

Some reports suggest that Vontae reaggravated a groin issue he'd struggled with previously. That's plausible.

For what it's worth, I don't have a problem with him calling it quits. And he made extra sure to apologize to his (former) teammates via Twitter.

Yes, it is.

Once upon a time, circa 2000, we had this loudmouth slacker in the crew who averred that he'd quit at lunchtime. Since he was a known peddler of tall tales, we ascribed his smack to wishful thinking. Color us surprised when he failed to show up afterward.
