was the 1960 season the only season where they used this logo?
On the helmets, yes.
Was it Pat Patriot from there on out?
Yes, through 1992.
James Busch Orthwein bought the team from Kiam, paid off the debts and had exactly one agenda: Move the franchise to his hometown St. Louis. He even had Stallions helmets and jerseys made up. He also 100% bought in to league/media propaganda that the Patriots were "a national embarrassment, a league humiliation, broken and ridiculed" etc. etc.
The facts were of course exactly to the contrary. The team on the field suffered three (3) losing seasons, after having 1 during the previous 13. Foxboro Stadium was flimsy and outdated, but not crumbling like those in Cleveland and Philly, and others. The Patriots
never experienced prolonged futility to compare with the Lions, Packers, Giants, Bears and others. The Patriots already had a world-wide fan base, and people had repeatedly made the trek down Route 1 to watch and support the team when it was winning.
Orthwein ordered the makeover, saying that our color scheme was "historically inaccurate"
...yeah, nothing wrong here...and, he's preparing to snap the football, something they do on almost every single play
And the Tagliabue ("The Patriots damaged the league") assisted by (NYJ) Goodell NFL Properties happily and hastily came up with basically the same thing that was booed out of the stadium by Patriots fans in 1979.
Kraft says he prefers our real logo, but that hasn't meant anything for the players on the field the last 25 years.
