RUMORS FLY OF BELICHICK TO GIANTS

A league source tells us that there are emerging rumors in NFL circles linking Patriots coach Bill Belichick to the New York Giants.

The move, per the rumors, would entail a package deal of Belichick and Pats V.P. of player personnel Scott Pioli.

We don't buy it. Though Pioli clearly is in play for the Giants G.M. job (although there could be an effort by New England ownership to block a move), Belichick won't be coaching the Giants without the blessing of Robert and Jonathan Kraft. And there's no way in hell that the Krafts will allow both Pioli and Belichick to escape from the organization.

Despite some speculation in media circles that Belichick's contract might expire after 2006 (including an oddball shot-in-the-dark by Ron Borges that Belichick could end up with the Texans in 2007), Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe recently reported that 2006 is not the final season of Belichick's contract.

Though the Krafts can't force Belichick to coach their team, the Krafts can stop him from coaching any other NFL team during years that are covered by his contract with the Pats.

So while we love to monger a good rumor as much as anyone, this one simply won't happen.

Even Florio is skeptical.

hey guys. i heard BB was gonna coach my sister's flag football team

HOW THE **** DID THIS RUMOR EVEN START??!?!?

This is just offensive to me as a fan of football.

Still but who would start such a ignorant rumor to begin with.

I can ujnderstand the Weis and Pioli connections.

But you know what? *** k it lets just say Bill Belichick is going to New York?

Why? Who knows. Maybe he wants to share his stadium with Mangini or finish the job that Parcelss did or some stupid crap.

Pisses me off to no end.

Even Florio is skeptical.

Pioli wouldn't shock me at all, BB would be a surprise but not a shock. So much mystery around his contract status, if it is not in writing the Patriots are screwed.

Just for fun, is there any compensation that would allow the Krafts to make the change?
  • 2 first rounders
  • 2 first rounders and a starter?
  • 3 first rounders

It also opens the door for Weis to coach at NE.

I find myself unmoved by any rumor of BB to NYG. Just for fun, I don't see Weis coming back as HC of the NEP - my first pick would be Brad Seeley, STs coach for the NEP.

Just a question.

Why would Seely be your first choice?

Gawd. Let's not wave bye bye just yet (don't tell me... TO also won the Battle of Dallas, and Parcells is headed back to NE...?)

Personally, I believe BB is this team, along with Brady and Kraft. SP ranks highly too, in my "what makes the Pats the Pats" "analysis." It'd be hard to get excited about the next phase, and that's an understatement.

But of course it would open the way for McDaniels to be fired and NEM to be promoted from maligned fan to OC.

PLEASE BILL, SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!

Crap, I can just hear him saying "It is what it is," whatever he's thinking.

Will just wait till PFW in Progress for the rumor monger to start up.. I know Scott Pioli's goal, is to be with Giants.. And with Bill Belichick's quote other woman in his life, it makes some sense. I will be surprised if Belichick is not coaching anybody else but the Pats next yr..

More simple put, you think this is BB's last year with the Pats.

...that's....interesting...

Sharon Shenocca does not work for the Giants.

http://thetrack.bostonherald.com/moreTrack/view.bg?articleid=149076

Vincent Shenocca, a 42-year-old New Jersey construction worker, filed for divorce from his wife, Sharon, a former receptionist with the New York Giants, on the grounds of “extreme mental cruelty.” Shenocca’s court papers say his wife of 10 years “has had a relationship with Bill Belichick for several years” and would not end it, despite her husband’s pleas.

Belichick last worked for the Giants in 1990. That was 16 years ago. Even if Shenocca still worked for the Giants, and even if the divorce story didn't break, Belichick would be insane to go back to the Giants just for her.

And we know Bill Belichick is not an insane person.

So let me see if I understand this correctly, BB currently get to work with T Brady has a playoff ready team, a boatload of draft picks, a team full of character guys and an owner who gives him the freedom to do things his way.

SO he's gonna dump Berady to work with a Manning bro, a team full of aging and disfunctional players (did you hear them throwing each other and the coaches under the bus this year?), the tem s best player retiring, an uncertain ownership situation (elder Tisch and Mara passed away recently).

Sure right this makes all the sense in the world ;)

Special teams coaches are undervalued as head coaching candidates. They work with players from offense and defense, which forces them to understand the strengths and weaknesses of players on both sides of the ball, and avoid tunnel vision for the game. Plus they value the intangibles and grit so crucial to special teams play and winning football. The good ones are usually excellent organizers, competing with more prominent coordinators for practice time with the same players.

As far as these rumors. It is becoming easy to hate the Giants, to actively root for their destruction until they crumble to the level of the Oakland Raiders. The family that owns the team believes they are the royal family of football due to whose charity and largesse the rest of the league is granted permission to operate. How else does one explain their behavior during the 2004 draft, when they hijacked now disgraced golden boy QB Eli Manning from his rightful team? Along with this inflated sense of importance are constant public references they make to the "Family", such as last week, when one of the Mara boys went all Sonny Corleone on a spirited Eagle fan who gave the spoiled aristocrat a ribbing about his disastrous team... on the floor of the NY Stock Exchange Mr. Mara allegedly tried to strangle his tormentor, shouting, "Don't attack My Family!" What are they, some kind of upper crust mob? After engineering the Eli Manning disgrace, which was not only a black eye on the SD Chargers but on the league and the draft in general, they are now reaping the whirlwind. I suppose they feel they are owed the genius they threw out in 1990, the greatest coach since Paul Brown, to come back and clean up the mess they evacuated on the national carpet. Any allegiance BB may have had to the Giants ended in 1990 when George Young, their crusty old GM, who never warmed to the cerebral/introverted approach of our beloved BB, said he would never hire BB as the coach of the team after Parcells' departure, that he didn't have the stuff for it. If the Maras are actually trying to lure BB away from the fans of NE, let the Giants dangle in the wind, self-destruct into a national joke, let them join the Knicks as a byword for bloated disgrace in the world of sports.

No way. Jim Mora, Jr. says he longs to coach your sister's team.

What possible reason could BB have to leave the Kraft family for the Mara Family?

Hell, I cannot even imagine SP leaving.

Here is where the Krafts need to step up and make damn well sure money never becomes the reason they leave.

Could there ever be a more stable situation for BB than what he has right here??

this makes as much sense as the newly installed 12th man, Maroney, being in the doghouse.
