It's like the Raiders are our minor league team. Thanks Al!

The two teams in on Burgess all along were the Eagles and Pats. Eagles were offering a 3rd-round pick and a player. Pats offer trumped it.

wonder what they gave up.

Too much, if they trumped that Eagles offer.

Nice move. we all know the one weakness on this team was pass rush. Should be really effective rushing on passing downs. Burgess is the accomplished pass rusher we've been looking for. He's explosive, quick, athletic with solid strength/power. He's also not bad setting the edge vs run so I think at OLB he can be effective in that regard. My feeling is that the Pats system will be a good fit for him since at DE he is too undersized to handle bigger OT's vs run. This move alleviates one of my biggest concerns heading into this season.

Sounds like more than what people here want but we're a pass rusher, better secondary and consistent OL from a SB win; pass rusher was the only one of those not potentially on the roster with Crable MIA.

Good. He adds depth (ideally) at both DE and OLB. Hopefully, the deal wasn't for the reported fourth and fifth round picks I'd read it would take.

I'm guessing this rules out signing Kevin Carter now.

Point to ponder: Burgess is due $3.5 million, exactly what the Raiders are paying Ellis. Plus they traded away picks. Ergo the Pats considered him significantly more valuable than Ellis.

Great news to wake up to!

Or they may have gotten more desperate.

If they gave up a 3rd and a 4th, that would be horrible.

i actually wont be surprised if they gave up one of their 3 2's

Boy Beliserio is busy between practices. Great job. Hope we didn't give up too much, but now Crable et al will have time to develop and we have much-needed depth.

I'm told Raiders got more than a third- and fourth-round pick, though nothing confirmed yet. Remember, Pats were scheduled to have 3 2's.

He can be an 8-12 sack guy, he could be the kind of pass rusher Colvin was in his first few years here; we need that and we're trying to win the SB.

OMG, even worse. The only problem with Burgess is that he gets nicked up a lot. However, when he's on the field, he can really get after the QB. Because he's 30 and somewhat injury prone, a second or 3rd rounder is pretty risky. I just hope this isn't Duane Starks part 2.

re: Pats acquire DE/OLB Derrick Burgess for draft pick

I wonder if he meant both 2011 picks or 3rd in 2010 and 5th in 2011.

I don't know but either way it seems like a steal.

relax ..lets wait and see..lombardi says 3rdand 5th.
Lets not jump to conclusions like duane starks. We got a bargain with moss and missed with starks... stuff happens.
