My debate was for Walsh as GM/HC not just pure HC. I would say your example of Walsh building a program, developing his replacement at HC and getting players that went on to win multiple superbowls proves his status as the GOAT GM.
Now if Mayo goes on to win a couple superbowls with the players...
Aaron Rodgers replacing Breet Favre.
Bill Walsh the GM built a team that won 5 Superbowls in 13 years with 2 HOF QBs that he picked.
Jimmy G was never HOF bound.
Bill is the best GM since 2000 but I don't think he deserves to be placed above Bill Walsh. Doing so is just recency bias
Don't be so sure.
Johnny Manziel was supposed to be a top 3 pick and went #22.
Aaron Rodgers was talked about maybe being the #1 overall pick but he fell to #24.
SF thought Trey Lance was worth trading 3 1st rd picks for.
Dimitroff from Atl thought it was worth trading up for Julio Jones but he asked Belichick's advice prior to and Bill thought he wasn't worth trading up for when he could get Jon Baldwin who was basically the same player.
Opinions vary...
Mahomes has never won a superbowl without a HOF receiving option. Outside of his first superbowl win Brady has had near HOF on the offense to help. 03 and 04 he had Corey Dillon and the Falcons game he Edelman.
You need Offensive talent to win, it doesn't always have to be a HOF Wr like...
The disrepect against Kraft as the GOAT owner is ridiculous. When he bought the Patriots they were a laughing stock on their way to be relocated to CT, AKA little NY.
Since taking over as owner the Patriots have been to 10 superbowls. Have rarely missed the playoffs and Kraft has had 3 HCs...
Let's see, just a few years ago there was a draft with 5 QBs taken within the first 15 picks of the draft. 3 were in fact taken with the first 3 picks.
You don't spend a top 15 pick on a QB unless you think they have the potential for being a franchise QB.
Every player drafted before they play...
I think when people say BPA, they mean like taking Carlos Dunlap instead of Jermaine Cunningham, or taking Keenan Allen instead Aaron Dropson, or not taking a safety with a borderline UDFA ranking in the second rd because they play ST and really like playing football
And the last team to win a superbowl after drafting a QB in the top 3 is the Giants with Eli Manning.
Technically the Eagles did with Wentz but Wentz wasn't the starter due to injuries but they did have an elite #1 wr talent in Alshon Jeffrey.
Since 1999, here are the QBs taken with #3 pick...
Or Ridley is talking about his former team and is saying the team that gave him the most was the most important thing.
The Pats might have offered 22 mil on ave but we never saw the guarantee which is the most important part.
